Dollar signs.
Not sure where to look at this point, I'm currently reinstalling the game, but I've had a couple of issues here. First I installed a few mods through MO2 that I knew I'd like: MCM, Improved Map with Visible Roads, Full Dialogue Interface, and CBBE. I don't know if the map worked or not but the MCM had a $ in front of it. Looked through a lot online, messed with some files, figured out the dialogues and CBBE weren't working either. I decided to try Vortex and this is where the main issue started.

This is where I decided to try Vortex. I've never used Vortex before but apparently it's better for FO4 than MO2 (and I believed it once I saw my mods began working). I deleted all of those mods from MO2 and reinstalled them there, but launching the game through Vortex or (later as I tried it) Steam causes $ to pop up on everything, but at least the mods had started working. Although, I can't handle seeing $ on my HUD everywhere, so I decided to go back to MO2 thinking maybe the mods started working there? Nope, however the text was fixed, albeit with $MCM on the menu still. Maybe the text fixed itself somehow? Nope, still $ everywhere when I launch the game through Vortex or Steam. Maybe I should try no mods? Didn't work either, MO2 is the only thing that gave me a clean interface with those damned dollar signs out of sight.

I'm redownloading the game at this moment, hoping the issue is fixed when it's done, but I can't help but to think and ask why this happened when I started using Vortex. I'm new to FO4 modding, had the game on PS4 previously but I didn't get to play it with mods so I figured this would be a nice, new experience like with Skyrim, but I don't remember having the $ issue with Skyrim before, whether running from Steam or through MO2. I never tried FO4 from Steam before installing Vortex though, so I can't confirm whether it started happening before or after. I definitely was running F4SE in Vortex but maybe something else went wrong? Why did MO2 load the text correctly and Vortex got plagued with $$$$?

Alright, this is starting to get to me now. Once I start loading mods into Vortex, the whole game messes up with the dollar signs. Yet, Mod Organizer 2 runs the game fine, although it still has the $MOD_CONFIG in the menu and still won't load my mods right. What the hell am I doing wrong?

and I did make the fallout4custom.ini, added bEnableFileSelection=1 into fallout4prefs.ini, I have the translate_en.txt in Fallout 4/Data/Interface and all the string files in Fallout 4/Data/Strings, I have no idea where else to look besides the same places people keep telling me to go. Everything is on the same SSD, the game and the mods, so it's not that. I'm so lost.

Seeing dollar signs generally means that you have mods installed that require a script extender, but you're not launching the game through the the script extender. You can't launch the game through Steam or Fallout4Launcher.exe any more once you install a script extender.

I literally have F4SE installed. I'm not stupid.

Do you use it for start too? In Vortex you need start F4SE with speacial start button at dashboard.

In general for all things go clear I would wipe all game files (be sure to remove all remains in sinstalaltion and documents before reinstall) first and go with clean installation + start Vortex for everything since first moment.

I tried install mods manually myself at beginning but eventually things screwed and t was only option I had (now all is smooth)

Does Vortex still use the data folder? I have not used it since it was called NMM to be honest. I prefer mod organizer since it makes it easier to add and remove mods without worrying about things getting overwritten.

$$$$ = missing/damaged/not installed strings file

крч чуваки, мне помогло просто удаление док-та Fallout4.ini и запуск игры через лаунчер, не F4SE , а лаунчер который запускается от стима, это создает новый документ и вуаля, все нормально и без этих ваших грязных долларов :steammocking:

MO2 is unsing virtualized paths for installing and running the modded game. Vortex doesn't, afaik. Since you switched from MO2 to Vortex (i did the contrary a while ago ;) ), it _could_ be some paths set still to the MO2 instances, while vortex trying to find files in it's default path.

That's just a theory of course, but it might be worth to check it.

This thread was quite old before the recent posts, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
