Btw I pewsonaly still prefer travel on foot - solely for the amount of discoveries and encounters I make this way. It still amazes me how much attention was paid to this and there is plenty and plenty non named spots on map with some cash and loot and similar.
Wonder if they ever do sprinters left arms?.....
Alright. But is it possible to somehow fly the vertibird if I want to side with the Institute and Minutemen?
Interesting.. I will also try that!
Thanks!
However I would say the best way to travel in Survival is to walk. You will discover so many places and experiences that other players completely miss, and you will have an immersive sense of the Commonwealth that is truly amazing to experience.
Then, when you have walked everywhere and been everywhere and done everything on foot, only then would I suggest switching to Vertibirds.
- attach yourself to a Bunker Hill trader caravan and follow their party as a guard, wherever it goes
- follow roads or rivers or other natural features, not with any destination in mind, just to see where they go
- follow your Provisioners, or transferring settlers, or dismissed companions, to see the route they take. It will usually be a different route than what you would take.
- explore the Glowing Sea on foot. Again, no destination, just explore. Probably after you've done the missions that send you there. You can even base yourself in the Glowing Sea for a while (there are a few viable base locations) while you explore.
Oh, okay. Thanks for the advice!
While they are mostly associated with the BoS you can apparently regain access after the story if they are destroyed with the minutemen and railroad.
Its just a shame that the minigun isn't very usable for various reasons.
The Institute teleporter isn't as widely able, but you can still get good mileage from it.
AFAIK you can safely store things in the Institute where there would be no risk of theft, and the Hangman's Alley settlement isn't too far from the spot at CIT where you can fast travel to reducing loot run times significantly.
Using the sprinter's legendaries to run faster has already been mentioned, but its also worth remembering that increasing END or your AP pool (via AGI boosts or whatever) will allow you to sprint for longer.
Increase END by enough and you will eventually reach a point where sprinting costs no AP, it needs 21 END IIRC. You will have to stack a bunch of bonuses to get there though.
And they're superior to teleportation and Fast Travel in terms of permitting Over-encumbrance (without Perks even).
Plus you get a great view of the Commonwealth, a different perspective, you can even Clear locations as well as tag them. You can stay airborne unlimited time if you keep changing your destination. Just really cool.
It would have been nice if we could have it enter some kind of 'gunship' mode, perhaps similar to what happens in the fort where it flies around circles.
There's several mods centered around setting up trade caravans between settlements, allow you to travel from one settlement to another.
There's also a mod called Red Wave which is a House Boat that can travel between several coastal locations.
