The way synths are they talk like people, do people think they may have souls?
How was issue talked in other fallout games?
Do synths dream? do they dream like humans?
Do they have free will, feelings emotions like humans?

souls dont exist except as a meta religious concept with no factual basis in reality. you ask if synths have souls when we cant even prove if humans have them? its pointless.

also what kind of souls? because if you view it from an abrahamic religous perspective or an eastern one the question of what supposedly has a soul will change wildly.

as for dreaming and free will the gen 3 synth brain is biologically human and every wierd aspect like memory alteration and uploading a robot personality has been done to natural brains in fallout before so is see no reason why they wouldn't dream and the renegade synths are ample proof of free will to me but like the soul its also arguable free will doesn't exist at all and even humans just react based on pre set parameters hard coded by evolution and chemical reactions.

other fallout had the amount of true AI pretty limited as aside from the 3 ZAX units, ACE and calcualtor real AI wasnt a thing so the question never really came up though ACE was dpressed. clones the closest analog for gen 3 sysnths were also likewise rare with vault city only doing it on the scale of organs and body part and the garys being to crazy to hold a philosophical conversation.

the closest past fallouts got to the gen 3 synth idea and question was probably the V13 death claws from 2. they were artificial sapient lifeforms like the synths, rejected the enclaves purpose in favor of self determination and started a society.

what makes humanity special? nothing were just a series of programs created via evolution to propagate the species run on an inefficient chemical based computer. tool use, self recognition and problem solving are present in a load of animals. the only difference between a brain and cpu is one is engineered and one arose by chance functionally both are the same and if a you built a processor of sufficient complexity you could have no real difference between a human brain and it asuming youd even want to emulate the humn brain.

plus synths are 3d printed organic tissue they are for all intents and purposes biologically human not silocon or vacum tube based computers

memory erasing? seen it done in fallout on organic human brains with the robobrain, calculator and Barnaky all of which had there memories altered and computer programming implanted

uploading an existing AI or robot OS onto a synth brain? did it with a human brain back in 2 with skynet whose program was far more complex than curie's seeing as he was a full blown AI and well the cybernetic enhanced brain was the best option a normal unaltered brain still gave good results

as presented in fallout 4 there is nothing that sperates a synth brain from a human one.

The key difference between machine and the living organism is the real feelings.
machines behave as they are programmed, but people don`t - they do what they want, even if they don`t, then they have to. Human is a unique unpredictable mix of love, happiness, hate, scare, and many other complex emotions. Due to this people can do irrelevant things, behave against logical way, and even lie, when they have no reason.
Unlike the machines , people have their own real self-preservation instinct and fear of death, not implemented to them by any other being. Thus award the machine with the medal of honor is senseless. Because any feelings that machine may demonstrate is a lie in the core. That is a line that machines will never cross. But the others they potentially can, if the time is given.

In simple words - it is normal behavior to any programmed machine in one moment demonstrate the best evidence of true love and to kill with a with a cute smile in the next moment. On the contrary for the people this behavior is called insane.
