Is it easy to play Fallout 4 with a controller?
Google searches are absolutely stupid sometimes. I searched in quotes "how to play Fallout 4 with a controller" and it tells me there's no search results for that. Literally no one ever typed out those words and published it in something??? That's ridiculous. I've never tried playing a Fallout game with a controller but my keyboard is getting a little worn out and I can't replace it right now so I'm considering at least trying to learn how to play FO4 with a controller.

they had consoles very much in mind and thus controllers. on pc it works as it would with them except you have more control of hardware and controller you may want to use.

something official how about

That's not really what I was looking for, but thanks I guess.

It's extremely easy to play with a controller. As of recent I only play Fallout games with a controller due to weird sensitivity things going on with my mouse, and it isn't challenging at all.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot sometime this week. But is there a guide or a video you can link me to that shows what all the buttons do on a controller for Fallout 4? Like in those "old school" video game guides that used to be in video game magazines. I'd rather know ahead of time what button does what instead of just experimenting.

I"d agree with the above with one comment . If you go down this route , Stick to the same brand controller in the future 'cause not all controllers are configured the same .

I only play fallout with a controller. It just feels nicer than keyboard and mouse. Building is also a lot easier.

It works very well with a controller. Keyboard is useful if you want to rename weapons. There's a tab in the menu that tells you what all the buttons do.
I just tried Fallout 4 with a controller and it is relatively smooth, but then I realize that swapping between weapons and healing with a stimpak or food that's favorited takes multiple steps. Might not seem like a big deal but on kb+m healing with a stimpak or food only takes one button. Also swapping weapon is so much easier. If my keyboard starts becoming really unresponsive then i'll just use my laptop keyboard (didn't think it was necessary to mention I'm using a laptop). If the swapping between weapons and healing was faster with a controller than maybe i'd be okay with using it. Also I sometimes use console commands to make things easier on me (like using tcl if I get stuck somewhere, teleporting a follower to me if THEY get stuck, etc) and I can't do that with a controller. If there's ever a Fallout 5 I hope they make controller gameplay better.

You can change 'favourite' weapons/aids/grenades with one click on the d-pad for the first 4 and 2 clicks for the next 4. It's pretty quick and I got used to it in no time - can do it without looking too. Some prefer keyboard though, its good to have the choice.

Turn up your sensitivity with any game you've used MnK on when using a controller so it's not slow.

Very easy, it's how I prefer to play all the Bethesda games.

Edit: and it's a necro

I certainly don't think it's easy, but then I'm totally garbage at playing "first person" games (or third person ones requiring similar accuracy) with a controller. I've missed a bunch of apparently-good first- and third-person console exclusives over the years due to this (PS1 through 4)

(never played any of the Killzones, or Resistance, or Uncharted, or. . . Tried a few demos, sucked massively at them. :D)
