What Building Material do yo prefer and why?
Personally, I've been a fan of concrete for years, but I've never liked the ambiguous snap and lack of logic. Sure you can snap them inside or out as you like but getting them to act "logically" is a chore. When your walls are "suggesting" a 31.2324 degree angle, that's an issue.

I've found warehouse pieces to snap much better and interact with each other much better than concrete, albeit without a lot of the aesthetics of concrete, which is much nicer imo.

What do you guys prefer?

Plywood, we're in the US after all huehuehue.

I like warehouse, but I use a clean version because I'm tired of all my new buildings being scruffy

Wood, because I am cheap. Although I like concrete (although I have mods to improve snapping and options). I agree with Johnny Bravo there that it's annoying that my NEW BUILDING I JUST CREATED looks like, well, a 210+ year old wreck that barely holds up. I don't expect insulated walls with wiring that's up to code, but come on, and it at least not have holes in it? Walls that let the enemy walk up and, at least in theory, start shooting my civilians through the holes, while preventing return fire, are the opposite of protection.

I use the clean workshop mods so I don't have to worry about my settlements looking like Dogmeat pooped all over the place.

I used to be a fan of concrete but I got tired of the dumbass way the walls snapped to the foundations. I always snap another wall to the bottom of the wall, basically wrapping the foundation, but this gets expensive and in some places, it's impossible to sink the bottom wall into the ground without manually placing it with Place Everywhere. Also, I really hate the flat concrete roofs, but I work around this by putting warehouse or barn roofs on all my concrete buildings.

In this playthrough, I mostly use the warehouse materials with some barn thrown in for variety.

What does the clean ws mod do?
Chaosium Jul 7, 2021 @ 1:20pm
It replaces most construction types with clean versions, with proper windows and no holes, it's pretty neat

They get rid of the filthy concrete, the rusty and hole filled warehouse, the crappy paint streaked barn, the rotted wood looking shack and replace them with clean versions. The ones I use are all texture replacers so no plugin is required. As such, they're safe to add or remove in the middle of a playthrough, unlike mods that add plugin files to youir game.

Do they look good or kinda "moddy"? Since I just started modding and spend about 90% of my in-game building, I may definitely add this.

concrete, if I want to build something big
wood/steel if I want to build something small & simple

Suppose I link one and you can decide for yourself? Click on the author's name and look at his files. Those are the ones I use.

I prefer this author's concrete retexture because he is the only one that ALSO retextured the steel frames. Every other concrete retx mod I've seen leaves the steel alone so you have clean concrete with rusty steel frames, which to me, just looks dumb.

Thank you. That looks pretty nice. I like how that one person is blurred out, lol.

I've kind of taken the same approach

Me too.

Though I have been known to switch to bought concrete when I run out of free wood, because concrete's also pretty cheap. And looks a lot cleaner and more secure than the crappy wood stuff I usually build.

Surprised no "warehouse, because they are the only pieces that synch well with elevators". Probably no one uses elevators.
