Can Brahmin be moved?
I bought a Brahmin from the trader and chose Vault 88 as its destination. I passed her again not too long after and she offered me another. I noted she had two with her and thought one of them would set off for the vault on whatever timing the game did that. I also thought it might like a bit of company on the trip, so I bought another.

Several days later there are no Brahmin in Vault 88. So I went to check and there are now three Brahmin with the trader. Seems those sent to the vault don't go anywhere.

Is there some console command that will let me move the ones I bought to the vault? I tried 'player.placeatme (code)' but that didn't work either.

Apparently you can keep brahmin there. I'd just put a trough in, forget the seller (Kelly) next time you see her (unless you want a brahmin for one of your other settlements) and just wait for them to turn up. Brahmin tend to show up eventually without you having to pay 100 caps for one, and I've noticed in my game they show up a bit quicker if the settlement is nicely established with decent happiness.

A couple of times I've bought a brahmin from Kelly and they don't show up, presumably they were killed on the way.

I have wondered about Vault 88 though, I would have thought the fact it's sealed off would physically prevent brahmin walking in there, although I know most of these things happen by teleportation anyway.

I had already set up an area of the vault, fenced-off, with six Brahmin feed 'baths' in place, before I bought the first Brahmin. The two I bought from the trader have been there with her for at least a couple of game weeks now.

I bought the third and sent it to Spectacle Island, and it set off on its journey while I was still there. The other two showed no signs of going anywhere.

Well it could be an issue with that Vault specifically. Or maybe with any DLC settlement. Also the Brahmin from her do have to do normal map movement to get to their destination so they are liable to get killed, crippled, etc en route if their part of the world is loaded and there are hostiles (or your itchy trigger finger) present.

They won't ALWAYS start walking in the direction of the settlement immediately, a bit like when you "move" a settler to a different settlement; the settler tends to sit around drinking or generally wandering around and will only appear at the new settlement a day or two later.

Did the other brahmin turn up ok at Spectacle Island?

The two I bought for the vault are quite alive and well. They are there with the trader, along with her current offering. That's the problem. They just stay there. But if they can't be sent to the vault, why is it in the list of settlements to choose from when buying them?

The game sends settlers you move out on their journey at a particular time of day. They might take a day or two to arrive, but it never takes more than one day for them to leave where they've been sent from.

The purchased Brahmin have always started walking away from the trader as soon as the trade was done in every instance I've bought one previously, which is what puzzled me when the first I bought for the vault was still there when I passed again a few game hours later.

I have never had Brahmin in any of my runs in Vault 88. There is also, no options for cages to be built in there. Now there may be a mod which allows it. But the vanilla game I play, never has.

And a settlement does not need a Brahmin trough to get them there. They are for keeping the Brahmin from wandering all over your settlements.

Once they are at a settlement they may require the following console commands to be able to move them to another settlement in workshop mode.

Addkeyword workshopallowmove
setpv ballowmove 1
resetai

I wonder if they might have any issues due to the vault being an interior? But that's just speculation.

If you wanted to handle it with console commands, you could try moving Kelly to the vault and buying the brahmin from her while she's inside. That should rule out any weird pathing issues at least.

Brahmin, pets, and cages are banned from Vault 88.

I managed to get them into the vault by getting their ID then going to the vault and using '(ID).moveto player'. Sadly they don't stay near the feeding 'baths', and fences/stairs are no object to them. They just head for the vault door area and block the corridors.

So why, when you buy a Brahmin, is the option to send it to Vault 88 offered?

They may just simply have forgotten to exclude it from the list.

The list includes places where you can't send a Brahmin, and they are greyed out. As the vault is a DLC add-on the devs forgetting to remove it doesn't float. They would have had to add it in the installation of the DLC. The Brahmin trader is in the vanilla game and can't have had the vault option prior to the issue of the DLC.

They may not need to add a new settlement manually if the list automatically populates itself with all settlements available based on them having an appropriate settlement workbench and the like. The game includes that kind of functionality (being able to identify all uses of something like a settlement workbench) so that it can easily accommodate whenever something is added my a mod or DLC without everything having to be coded all over again.

The only odd part of the whole arrangement is that it doesn't grey out the settlement, but doesn't properly work, either. But there are other cases where they've had similar hiccups in missing just one of multiple settings required to make something work properly.

EDIT: Or it could be a conflict like the vault (incorrectly) being included in the list as a valid choice, but the brahmin AI tries to avoid interior cells. You'd have to see if there's some part of brahmin behavior that's responsible for them not responding to a supposedly valid choice.
