Can't get CBBE to work with bodyslide to save my life
I've installed CBBE and bodyslide using the nexus mod manager, everything is in the right spot as far as I can tell, bodyslide works, I can edit all the outfits/bodies, see the preview etc. everything looks good. After batch building the vanilla outfits, with no errors, I go in game and absolutely nothing has changed.

I've run bodyslide and NMM with admin as well and I can't find any helpful info after like 2 hours of browsing the internet.

Can anyone help?

Your paths are likely messed up somehow and game does not load edited meshes.

Can you locate edited meshes from your Data folder?

NMM is the least recommended mod manager for Fallout 4. It still have archive issue, where it can loose content from installed or updated archives, especially for Fallout 4. It never behaved well with this game, though there are still people successfully using it.

What mod manager do you recommend?
I am using Mod Organizer 2, but Vortex is also well recommended. Both of them are good managers and neither of them actually installs any files in to your Data folder.

MO2 uses virtual Data folder. It only loads what is in it's profile load order and you can have multiply profiles at the same time.

Vortex uses symlinks or hardlinks. They appear in Data folder, but files are not actually there.

Using BodySlide is relatively easy on both. MO2 requires a bit more fiddling, because you need to create dedicated folder for that. However, you can do that directly from tool menu, or press Left Control when clicking BatchBuild to select the target folder.

Both of them have slightly wider learning curve than NMM does. However, big benefit with them is that you no longer need to worry about loose file installation order. You can handle that manually in MO2. Vortex has Mod Priorities option, where you can handle the same. Instead of reinstalling loose files over mistake or update, you can just update them directly to mod specific folder and solve conflicts by moving folders from mod manager UI.
Im using both of those in current run, no real problems or usage issues. Installed via NMM, that remains my go-to mod manager as it does everything you ask it to, and is not inundated with advertisements.

Are you maybe batch building the wrong file? did you "save as"? you have modding enabled in the first place?

MO2 has 0 ads.
I haven't used Vortex for a very long time. Have added something to it that made you say so?

The last question is actually a very good one. I forgot to ask if archive handling is enabled. Good call. Looks like I need more coffee.
I was refering to Vortex, last i tried it, which was awhile ago now, it was already being used as Nexus secondary platform for ads, and those situations only ever get worse, not better.

Hard pass far as im concerned, even moreso when NMM fails at nothing i ask of it, maybe im just not enough a power user to notice its shortcomings, but as long as it handles the plethora of mods (217 on current FO4 play) without posing any trouble, it remains MM of choice.

MO2 seems terrific, but by comparison, it feels like a college degree is required to operate.

Not sure what you mean by "modding enabled" my other mods work if that's what you mean
And yes I saved as a custom preset before building.

I deleted the mod manager and tried installing manually, following everything to a T and still not noticing any changes
Not sure how much good that chopping and changing is doing to the mod setup.

Have you tried just grabbing a preset from nexus and applying it to a single compatible outfit? maybe you have a mod (or multiple) thats already changing the vanilla assets and thats not being overwritten i.e. edits that dont support CBBE/bodyslide.

Yes, I tried with one preset downloaded from the nexus, no change.
And I also only have like 3 other mods, one being a hairstyle one (which i haven't yet used), one to increase loading speed and one to re-enable achievements with mods.
Thats sort of what it sounded like in the first place, as in, you had few to no other mods installed.

If you go to documents -> mygames -> Fallout 4, and open Fallout4custom.ini, can you see these lines:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
If thats missing, mod won't edit anything, its not enabled. If thats all in order, then i might not have much more of an idea, it should be doing all you ask it to.

Done that already.. that's what I mean, I do not understand why it isn't working, followed every step correctly.
Let's see if we can take this step by step and get you on your way to having the best tits in the game. One thing to remember, what I'm writing here is ONLY for CBBE and not any of the other body replacers like TWB, Fusion Girl or what have you. If you've installed those, you'll need to follow the author's directions for those bodies. Lastly, this short tutorial will NOT work for any of the Unique Player mods. If you've installed those, you'll have to follow those directions as well.

Step 1. Launch BodySlide
Before you do anything, click "Settings" and in the window that opens, make sure Fallout 4 is listed as the "Target Game" AND right below that you have the FULL PATH to your game's DATA folder. As an EXAMPLE, this is what mine looks like:

G:\Steam on G\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data\

No doubt your's will be different but it's important that BodySlide has the full path to your game's data folder.

Step 2. If you're creating your own custom body, do it now and then do a SAVE AS, giving it a unique name that you'll remember. I'm assuming you at least know how to create your own body preset. Otherwise, select one of the pre-made ones in the Preset drop down or download one. (see Step 3)

Step 3. At the top of the BodySlide window there are TWO dropdowns - Outfit/Body and Preset. Make sure your preferred body preset is selected in the Preset drop down. Don't worry about the Outfit/Body drop down for now

Step 4. At the bottom LEFT of the BodySlide window you'll see a "Batch Build" button. Make sure you check off "Build Morphs" if you use LooksMenu. This will allow you to use LooksMenu sliders while in-game.

Step 5. Now click "Batch Build". This will open another window where everything should be checked off by default. Before you do anything else, scroll down the list that starts with "CBBE" and at the very end, UNCHECK "CBBE Body Physics" AND "CBBE NeverNude". If for some strange reason you don't want to see your character naked, then UNCHECK "CBBE Body" and leave "CBBE NeverNude" checked off. Leave everything else alone

Step 6. Now click the "Build" button that is in that window and let the process complete.

Step 7. Enjoy your game since your body and all vanilla armor and clothing have now been converted to CBBE and will fit your character's body.

===============================================================

Whenever you download a CBBE clothing, outfit or armor, you'll have to go through a SIMILAR process, depending on whether you're installed a few outfits or a large collection.

If you've only installed a few, you can select the individual pieces in the Outfit/Body drop down that I told you in Step 3 not to worry about. Just make sure you've selected your body preset in the Preset drop down and just click the "BUILD" button (NOT the Batch Build). You can do this to build any CBBE individual piece of armor or clothing.

If you've downloaded a large collection of stuff like the VTAW collections, I'd recommend you BATCH Build them instead of doing each one individually.

Remember, keep "Build Morphs" checked off if you're using LooksMenu but even if you're not, leaving this option checked will not harm your game since the morphs are only recognized by LooksMenu.

===============================================================

Lastly, there is a NEW version of BodySlide / Outfit Studio that was released yesterday. I suggest you update to this version (v5.4.2)

That's what I've been doing, but I tried it again step by step as you have said, and still it isn't working lol. Honestly I'm stumped.
If your game is installed in the default Steam location, this puts you squarely in the lap of Windows UAC. Also, your AV might be interfering as well so try creating an exception in your AV for the entire Fallout 4 game folder. Then try running BodySlide as Admin.

=================================================================

Another thing you can try is MANUALLY installing your CBBE body mesh into the game. It's done like this:

1. Launch BodySlide and in the Outfit/Body drop down, select "CBBE Body". In the Preset drop down, select your preferred preset.

2. Now HOLD the CTRL key and click "Build". This will now create your CBBE body in the BodySlide working directory

3. Navigate to .....Data/Tools/BodySlide/ and you'll see a file in there called "FemaleBody.nif". This is the CBBE body you just created in step 2

4. Move this file to ......Data/Meshes/Actors/Character/CharacterAssets/ , overwrite if necessary. Launch your game and you should see your custom body.

=============================================================

The path I stated in step 4 is actually created when you first install CBBE. If your game is missing that path, then your install of CBBE is borked and that's your real issue.

===========================================================

Lastly, if you're using MO2 as a mod manager, my understanding is you'll have to do some extra fiddling around and unfortunately, I can't help you with that since I use Vortex and have never had an issue with that mod manager.

I used vortex and manual install, neither worked. All the correct directories and files are there, it's like the game is just ignoring the cbbe mod.

I added the exception to my antivirus, and ran bodyslide as admin to get around UAC, tried installing the meshes manually, still no change.

Closest I came to getting it working was yesterday when I loaded in and my hands were purple, and my torso invisible. But that was just because I had Unique Player installed which is gone now. No other characters are changing so I doubt that was the root of the cause.

Idk what else to try lol
