FPS drops RTX 3070
Hey guys,
I looked on forums for some info but cant really find sth for new graphic cards so here's the question. I got really hard frame drops, sth like 15 fps in some areas looking in certain driection, not only around the Diamond City. I tried to manage setteings and shadows mod but nothing really helped with it. Anyone knows solution?

The achievable fps is mostly determined by the cpu. A 3070 should be more than sufficient even for 4k.

The monitor refresh rate can impact the fps. The ipresentinterval ini setting needs to be changed from 1 to 0. Run the game and note the fps, If it increases, then cap the fps in the nvidia control panel to 60.

weapon debris needs to be off in the launcher settings else the game will crash.

Once you get 60 fps working OK there is a mod that uncaps fps. But first you need to look at your cpu thread loads as overloading the cpu can cause the game to crash or corrupt savegames.

Note that a new gpu can allow the cpu to run faster and cause thermal throttling. Unlikely to be your problem but it's a possibility.

The DC game data, like downtown Boston, has some embedded errors which can cause fps drops. But not to 15.

Yes it is and my CPU is good also (I7 10700). Both usages are pretty low, around 30% of cpu and gpu, up to 50% max. I got resfresh rate on moniter at 144 Hz so maybe that's the deal?

Those drops, as has been said, are CPU related. Specifically, single thread CPU bound - it doesn't matter if your overall CPU usage is only 30%, since one core is most likely completely maxed.

Do you have any mods whatsoever? Anything that breaks precombines and/or previs, or has you change the bUseCombinedObjects in the ini will cause that kind of scenario in some areas, no matter your hardware.

Yeah. Can't be your GPU. I have an ancient GTX 770 and my framerate is smooth as butter.

Hmm interesting cause checkin on CPU usage every core is not throttled, almost every works fine around 40-60% depends on situation. But I have some mods installed, maybe that's a deal. I also played it on my RTX 960 when it came out with i5 processor and was a lot better than now on high end.

In Bethesda games, script lagg is a thing.
Especially when a modder does something he shouldn't from a programming perspective.
Then there is the user tendency to overmod the game.

I have the same problem I had a gtx 1080ti which I gave to my brother when I bought my new pc with an rtx 3090. I installed the exact same mods on both pc's and his old 1080ti performs much better than mine. I even had to put some settings down to med but still getting bad frame drops in citys like lexington and so on.

he has a gtx 1080ti, i7-7700k, 16gb corsair vengeance ram 2400hz, rog b250f motherboard

I have rtx 3090, 19-10980XE, 32gb corsair vengeance 3600hz, Rog rampage Extreme VI encore

we both run at 3840x2160 res and like I said his is performing better than mine

my overall cpu usage was 9% and gpu usage around 50-56%

could there be a fault. I had to return my computer to PCSpecialist 4 times and they kept returning it with the same fault saying it was in working order...

Its not your hardware, its the game's shadow rendering...this game struggles to render shadows when theres a lot of stuff like buildings nearby...Setting you shadow draw distance to medium will solve this issue but the the shadows now render so little it looks ugly.... What you need is a mod its called" Shadow boost" what it basically does is dynamically lower the shadow draw corresponding to your FPS or increase it if you fps is above the threshold.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1822 this is the original mod (dont download this its outdated)

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/52327?tab=description .This is what ure looking for ...this mod makes the above mod work since its outdated

Just reply if you need additional help.. Good Luck Wastelander!

Hey Guys maybe this will help, So I have found out that Using two monitors drops my FPS around 20-30 FPS, I dunno if its the same for everyone, Currently Running 250 Mods and having 55-60 Fps stable now.

hope this helps.

You need to keep in mind - this game was not built with a steady FPS in mind, there are high tasking areas and low density areas. You can't just "duh cap 60fps and everyding ok".
1) Setup as follows (and you have an nVidia GPU):
a) Disable Weapon Debris from Game's Options Menu
b) Disable V-Sync in the Game Options Menu
c) Enable Fast Sync in your nVidia Driver Menu
d) Cap FPS in driver to your monitor's refresh frequency (144fps), may have speed up issues in some high FPS areas, but your low FPS will now be 40-45fps which is live-able.
2) Optimization, some ultra settings are a waste of FPS, adjust according to this:

Hope this helps. :steamthis:

For running framerates above 75Hz in Fallout 4, you need this mod or something that does the same thing to prevent the engine from breaking, since FPS is tied to the engine, so without this modification, running 90+ FPS will speed EVERYTHING up and can break the game

bethesda makes such ass of coding.... on a geforce 1070 this system was getting around 45-55 fps @4k settings maxed . on my 3070 now and frame rate seems to bounce between 40 - 65, in town areas i see drops to 30's, i have to turn off my weapon debris ... it's jsut A$$ any time a game decides it ahtes new hardware , when new hardware should make it run better than old hardware did. this is soo stupid
