But as you stated damage resets on reload, this may not be the case -- but another think to look for while checking expected damage.
I didn't have any active effects from Psycho or any other temporarily damage buffs. I did use one Psychobuff but the effect had worn off by the time I fast traveled back to my base.
I have limited knowledge but reloading and or restarting the game didn't fix it the last time. Then it was displayed correctly again after a few minutes and back to weird again.
I tested on a Raider in my cage and I didn't one shot him, which would be the case with a ridiciolous damage increase.
if in survival you had a killing spree maybe, or used some chems or something.
if nothing else check your stats, they sometime get bugged. go to your character screen and press Q to see the current effects (where you see vault boy picture) and from there go to special page to check your stats.
There is a class of legendary effect that does the same, and includes those such as Defiant, Junkie's Bloodied, Furious and Nocturnal that apply their boosts to the PC themselves. If one of those is equipped and the effect is active when you look at other weapons in the list then you get borked numbers.
Explosive damage values are almost always wrong as they fail to count most buffs that apply to them.
