Yep. he does not like the player being greedy or selfish. But you do not have to rescue Preston and his gang in order to get his max affinity. As long as you go to Concord, you then can go back to him and pick him up as a companion.
His affinity perk, is beneficial when you do the Mechanist quest.

so he wont continously like your actions if they happen too often.
