Laser tripwires for one. Jamaica Plain has a good concentration of them.

Go to YouTube and type in " good sources for fiber optics in Fallout 4 ". You can do that for any items you need help with.

Jamaica Plain is the best source of fiber optics. Microscopes and biometric scanners are probably where you'll find most of them randomly, though. These can be found in hospitals, labs, and other science-y locations.

^ best answer.
If you have Scrapper II you can break down Laser rifles for good components. Fiber Optics you can pull out of Recon scopes on Pipe weapons that are fairly common by time you have that perk.
Mechanist plot if you have the addon also has a room with *lots* of laser tripwires if your patient and your follower walks right into it and ruins it

Not an issue for me. 2nd playthrough with water farms here and there I buy up all the laser rifles I can worth more than 150 and scrap them. I tend to hoard plasma weaponry, but they might have fiber optics too.

What I need is ballistic fiber. shipments are rare, I only know the fat bearded whasisname has it and he doesn't even come to hangmans despite my caravan post and seating. Or I buy armoured gear from tinker tom.

already looted jamaica plain a long while ago
don't know where I can find more now
is there a trader that sells shipments of fiberoptics?

alright then guess I'll invest on the scrapper perk
thanks for the tip guys
Lucas will eventually come to your caravan post but if getting his ballistic fiber shipments is a high priority then it may be better to eliminate your caravan posts which will then reduce the number of locations he will be in.

But regardless he actually has a very short circuit route. Covenant - Ten Pines Bluff - Greentop Nursery. If you do a circuit of that route you will find him for certain. Bearing in mind that from each stop he will travel to another random stop. So save at one stop, head to one of the others, if he's not there, restore and go the other (third) one instead.

In fact I don't think it's even necessary to remove your caravan posts because I believe merchants don't actually transit to and from those anyway, they just teleport there sometimes if you are there, like Bunker Hill.

Jamaica Plain is apparently relootable. There is a button that reenables the lasers, meaning you can disarm them again for more material.

As for traders, the one in Vault 81 sometimes has shipments, as well as one on the Brotherhood ship. Also, if you spare the Mechanist at the end of her questline she sells them too.

Jamaica Plain tripwires respawn frequently and infinitely but I didn't think you could respawn them on demand just by hitting a button?

From what I've found looking online (never been there myself), there is a button at the end of the hall. Apparently you need to press it twice.

For Ballistic Fiber I generally do this circuit assuming you're in good standing with BOTH railroad and BoS and have advanced far enough on their respective campaigns. GoodNeighbor (KLEO) -> Railroad Church (Tinker Tom, buy up his Armored gear and break it down for ballistic fiber) -> Prydwen (Teagan) -> Lucas wherever he is

Ah, Lucas... yeah. I only use one caravan post at hangmans, usually where I keep all my stuff. Saw 3 of the traders seated there with their guards, but Lucas was nowhere. I remember in my first playthrough I built caravan posts in all my settlements.
The caravan posts do tend to attract multiple traders, who then get stuck there until you leave, and interestingly I've never seen more than 3. I think this is some kind of internal limit, intentional or not.
