As bad as a fascist state would be.

They don't care about the people. They ask you to intimidate local farms to supply their self proclaimed righteous crusade, but they're only pissed off that the Institute has better technology than them, while confiscating all technology they find for themselves.

There entire ideology about synths is COMPLETELY flawed since one of their best members is a synth. They're basically ready to kill civilian gen 3 synths that did nothing wrong simply because mr beardguy told them so.

They do nothing to protect locals from their daily threats and don't contribute at all to the betterment of the Commonwealth.

The Raiderhood of steal is a menace and a disgrace.

Flawed guys. BOS's basic ideology is protective, but extremely limiting for humanity's future. It's a regime entirely based on fear and control. Rank and file members might mean well, but their blind obedience to authority makes the whole organization a dangerous beast. I would just as soon nuke them right after using them to defeat the Institute... except that LIBERTY PRIME IS IMMUNE TO NUKES AND HAS 5 MILLION HIT POINTS. So by helping the BOS at all, you are leaving the Commonwealth at their mercy, or at the mercy of whoever else somehow defeats them and takes control of Prime. The Brotherhood's mere PRESENCE puts the entire Commonwealth in terrible danger, forever.

They're pretty square

They're all the same, the 3 Major Factions. They all think they are good, but use extreme methods so they are perceived as evil by anyone not agreeing 100 % with them. Railroad, BoS, Institute, they all think they are cool, but people fear them.

Railroad are the lesser of the three, but they "cannot" save the world, only a few measly synths. The Minutemen area actually old fashion Good guys, but hopelessly Naive and ineffective.

My opinion would depend on what they ultimately do if you side with them, and wipe out the RR and Institute. Do they eventually leave, taking Liberty Prime with them? Or do they just keep hanging around, hunting down ghouls, super mutants and synths, which in the case of the ghouls is probably never going to end. Not real fond of Liberty Prime tbh, he is too powerful. What if he glitches and decides everyone is part of the Red Menace? It's goodbye Commonwealth.
My opinion is they're on the right track but too narrow in their scope. They're authoritarian, but any force that's going to impose security and order is going to be authoritarian. You won't find any historical counter examples. Democracy etc is only possible after an authoritarian force has created security and order first.

Much as I prefer the ethics of the Minutemen, their loose discipline is their downfall, as the game shows.

The BoS are the best hope for humanity. They need to expand their mission profile to make the reconstruction of civilisation their primary goal. They have the means to achieve it - technology, training, science, weapons, discipline.

Or if you really think humanity is doomed, go with the Institute, they have similar discipline and resources.
As I've said elsewhere, the BoS are like the cops - most people don't like them on a personal level, might fantasise about being one (the power, the violence, the shiny uniform) but hate being on the receiving end of that power. But, only a fanatic or zealot would think you could operate a society without cops.

Debaitible, All the factions have strengths/weakness
they do come off as extreme but honestly, They seem to behave more like Cops with a bit of a Attitude, alot of ppl dont like them on a personal level for a number of reasons, But Meh.

Personaly argue they are prob the best hope over-all, The Minutemen mean well but they have piss poor Discipline among other things that can 100% be there downfall

so its BoS or MM honestly, the Railroad are just kinda a-holes only realy caring about Synths and what knock dont get me wrong not like they are evil but they kinda dont give a damn about anyone/anything outside of said group.
at least the BoS try.

BoS are justified by the philosophy of Thomas Hobbes Leviathan.

The Brotherhood of Steel is misunderstood. They have an extremely long view of the future. That view is that they will keep mankind in a perpetual Dark Age. To that end they work secretly to prevent any power from gaining the power to initiate a new worldwide empire. The Brotherhood's view is that anytime worldwide empires are formed they inevitably lead to a nuclear war.

This is why they goaded Caesar's Legions to attack the NCR. The NCR was getting too big. As for the Institute, it has the technology to abruptly become a world power--first the Commonwealth, then the entire eastern seaboard of the old United States. Since their expansion will be ultra quick, it must be stopped ultra fast. The BOS doesn't actually give a damn about the Synth 3's--their own propaganda notwithstanding.

The BOS world view is that 10,000 local strongmen ruling the world is better than 4 or 5 large empires ruling the world. This is despite the fact that more people would be happier living in the 4 or 5 empires world, and they would live longer lives.

Are they right? They certainly believe thy are.

They're raiders with bigger guns really. Especially under elder Maxon. Their airship blew up as soon as they asked the general of the minutemen to raid his own settlements in my game.

Very interesting.

It also brings up the supposition that the BOS must be international. It does no good stopping large empires from forming in the former US if they are free to form in China or Russia or Europe. The original BOS was formed from the remnants of the old US armed forces. It must be assumed that other Brotherhoods arose from the remnants of the other empires.
