But.. Fallout 3 atmosphere is very unique and awesome, and as my first Fallout game is was way more memorable and eerie than FO4, and some of the side-quests and dialogues are a bit more interesting.
4 Has more action. Way more enemies to kill
Very Close
But 4
It has a much better Skill system The World feels alot more real, Synths for example will infintrate settlements and such the actions feel like they have more wight and such
the crafting is beautiful
all weapons are good based on Player skill not 'my Weapon skill is at X Thus its good' like FO3 or such.
FO4 is legendary.
in every aspect of an rpg game fallout 3 is better.
fallout 4 completely failed to bring out the rpg in fallout.
it was a good game though.
fallout 4 lacks any kind of character development.
yes you have the same Your S.P.E.C.I.A.L that has been present in every fallout game.
but being S.P.E.C.I.A.L in this game only seems to reflect solely your combat ability.
you have 70 different perks in this game and only 7 of them reflect non combat elements.
and the removal of a skill system was a terrible move on bethesda's part as that is one of the key things that makes fallout 4 less of an rpg then the previous games did.
fallout 3 and new vegas you could trigger all kinds of unique dialogue based on not only your special but your skills as well and unlock unique rewards in doing so.
fallout completely flopping on dialogue was another key thing that lead to fallout 4 failing as an rpg.
and the ultimate thing that makes this game a bad rpg is it forces you to be a good character every game.
the only way to not be a good character is to get the nuca world dlc.
and who ever in the history of the world is happy with needing a dlc just to roleplay a bad character?
also your background is set for you meanwhile in fallout 3 your background could be whatever you build it to be and in New Vegas your characters background was completely unknown so roleplay potential was through the roof.
in fallout 4 your entire story and background is built for you so roleplay is somewhat severely limited.
im not saying fallout is a terrible game.
im saying its a terrible rpg.
Vanilla 4 is more advanced but it's story and game systems leave a lot to be desired. I gave it a -ve review.
But modded 4 can be a different game altogether, although still limited by 4's weak story.
Sp I think 3 is better.
Although, FO3 was decently crafed to give the illusion it was not empty. NV and FO4, they were too open with not enough stuff in between.
BTW, NV was the worst in the series. There is almost nothing on the map, with giant places that are just empty, they could have done so much more.

3 has better story+side quests, much better dialogues and characters. And I like to found the historic locations.
Both are really good.
