What Inspire Fallout Games?
Was wondering what inspire the devs to make fallout games?
What films and games?
Part of the outside life of logans run reminds me of Fallout 4.
Maybe planet of the apes when they travel to the old city, has a faction to there.

You need to talk about Fallout 1 for the answer. Not Fallout 4. 4 is just a continuation. 4 and 76 were made to make more money from the franchise.
IMHO, Fallout 1 was made as a parody of the D&D type adventure games of that time. The humor was the reason to play. Not sure why they chose a wasteland. It has probably been answered. The Fandom Wiki might explain.

Agreed. F4 is mostly derivative from earlier games; its choices are not so much inspired as they are a logical continuation - i.e. retrofuturism, a society frozen in the pro-nuclear 1950s.

Safe to say its inspired by sci-fi and that its an ongoing title.

Also safe to say ignore downer comments. :steamhappy:

Original Fallout game was inspired by the computer game Wasteland, and by the story and movie called "A Boy and His Dog", story by Harlan Ellison. Among other things.

Wasteland, but in turn that was inspired by pen and paper rpgs. I forget the title of the original one, but it was about a team of frozen engineers who would emerge from a vault and rebuild a location after the fallout had dropped to a safe level. But things don't go as planned. Created in the 1970's.

Also various sci-fi movies like Charlton Heston's The Omega Man (a virus, sole survivor, ghouls, city setting, dog).

Also in the 90's Bethesda finished off a Call of Cthulhu game set in Innsmouth,MA. Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Same graphics style. So it's possible that the design framework of Bethesda's Skyrim and Fallout games originated in Britain. The original developers didn't know what they had !

Also the Alone In The Dark series to some extent -

Much of the FO4 game is based on real Boston history and locations. Again, there is a pen and paper Colonial Gothic rpg set in Boston that might have provided some inspiration.

FO4 locations -

That's a lot more inspiration than I had realized.

They had a few early idea during pre devlopment one of which would have been dinosuars and used GURPS but decided on making a follow up to wastland. the owners of Gurps pulled out over the violence and sex and EA owned the wastland IP. This lead to the creation of the special system to replace Grupus and the tittle was changed several times from wastland 2 to armagedon, to vault 13 and lastly fallout

the main influences were wastland which was during early devlopment the precursor and is still refrenced with the follower Tyco being from the desert rangers aka the player faction in wastland 1, 2 and 3

other major influences include a Boy and his dog, mad max, damnation alley, monty python, doctor stranglove and various 1950's B movie like plan 9 from outer space, Them

If you ever play FO2, make your character a 16 year old female named Buffy, and you'll get a load of helpful loot from Becky. I only mention it here because I didn't see it in the linked cultural reference page and I'm too lazy to edit a wiki.
