Get a syringer and 3 yellowbelly shots. You will need at least 3 jet and 1 or 2 nuka quantums.
When the elevator door opens hit some jet, VATS and shoot the 2 minions and the LT with the yellowbelly. They should all run away. Hit some quantum to refresh your APs. You should be able to kill sinjin,(tks) just about the time the first jet fades. More jet to finish off the runners before the fear wears off and you should be good.
If that intimidation is successful, it will be only you and Sinjin with Kent at risk.
Then, If you have a powerful enough weapon (such as a gauss rifle) with the right perks, you can VATS headshot Sinjin and save Kent. (If you have any other weapon, load up nothing but head shots with all your action points).
I ain't going after that bastard with the Silver Submachine Gun, I'm taking him down with the most powerful weapon I can get my hands on, because that's my friend he's going to kill.
I remember one time when I was stuck in a no-win situation and no matter how hard I tried or what I tried, Kent would die in that instance. So ... I cheated. I used the console command KAH the instant they all turned hostile.
One time, I was playing a low-charisma build, and I brought Deacon along with me. After fighting my way to Sinjin, I was about to take some Grape Mentats to boost my charisma. Then I realized that Deacon would hate that. OK, fine, we'll do things the hard way. But then I realized that I was going to be restricted from taking Psycho Jet to help me kill Sinjin. Deacon, you can really be a pain sometimes.
It took forever to find a workable strategy, but I finally got through that encounter without using a single chem, while wearing the costume, and killing Sinjin before he could kill Kent. The key was triggering a stagger effect on Sinjin before he could pull the trigger. If you do that, it buys you another second or two to queue up a bunch of head shots in VATS.
I understand your frustration. I was at that point.
But give it one more try and use the KAH console command just at the very instant they turn hostile. type: ~kah (press Enter, then) ~ (once more).
Just next time remember to prepare for it. You'll clean his clock next time.
This generally does not work. There are 4 npcs that are going to shoot kent. You can kill 1, maybe 2 of them before the rest ghost em.
It worked for me when I had no other choice. KAH (meaning: Kill All Hostiles) at the instant they turn hostile (and before Sinjin has a chance to pull the trigger). It puts them all down and Kent will stand up.
The only exception I can possibly think of is if a controller is being used and might not provide a means of accessing console commands as available with mouse and keyboard.
Until today.
After the dialogue (and before Sinjin blows Kent's head off) hit the tilde key and type:
disable (000228ac)
Press Enter will disable the Kent NPC (he will vanish).
Next type:
killall
Press enter then the tilde key again, everyone dies including Sinjin.
Hit tilde key, type:
enable
Press enter and Kent reappears unharmed, press the tilde key. Quest completes.
Cheating yes, bothered? No. Do I care if anyone else is bothered? No.
