Console command to force start Freedom Calls?
For some reason Prestons brain broke and the quest won't start even after I slaughtered every raider outside the museum. I don't even want to join the Minutemen, I just need the quest finished so I can start Sim Settlements 2.

I think if you chose a normal vault start then it does not interfere.
If you start somewhere else it causes triggers to be missed exiting the vault.

Not really hours of troubleshooting. Just next game disable the Start Me Up.

As for the console commands to skip:

The console commands to skip to the other SS2 main quests is:

cqf ss2_mqmaster SkipToQuest X

Where X is the ID of the quest you want to get to (ie. the quest after the one you are stuck on). The quest IDs are as follows:
https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/en/getting-started/troubleshooting
SS2_Sirick_MQ01: Laying Foundations You wouldn't skip to this, but including it for completeness of this list.
SS2_Sirick_MQ02: Plotting the Future
SS2_Sirick_MQ03: If I Had a Hammer
SS2_Sirick_MQ04: Casting a Line
SS2_Sirick_MQ05: Scavver's Delight
SS2_Sirick_MQ06: Well Well Well
SS2_Sirick_MQ07: Hub of the Problem
SS2_MQ08: The Coolest Cat (Yes this is the only one without Sirick in the ID)
SS2_Sirick_MQ09: Vim and Vigor
SS2_Sirick_MQ10: New Plots on the Block
SS2_Sirick_MQ11: Where There's Smoke
SS2_Sirick_MQ12: Memory Lane
SS2_Sirick_MQ13: Who can? ASAM!
SS2_Sirick_MQ14: Picking Up the Pieces
SS2_Sirick_MQ15: SPOILER

For example: cqf ss2_mqmaster SkipToQuest SS2_Sirick_MQ02
That skips you to the second quest.

I usually skip to the castle quest, so if I'm not mistaken the command should be

setstage min00 *something*. I'mma check the wiki...

Right, found it.

It's "setstage min00 *stage id*"

To start the quest stage "find the last minutemen" - setstage min00 10
To complete the entire quest - setstage min00 1000

If you clear the inside of the museum, and don't go back inside, it should get ya going.
Most of the time, my ss2 starts with placing the first beacon down.

It isn't The Castle quest, it's the one that triggers when you enter Concord for the first time.

Tried clearing the inside, Preston doesn't open the door. I know SS2 starts when I place a beacon, but don't I need to clear Concord to do the actual questline? If I can do so without interacting with Preston I don't mind leaving him bugged out in the Museum forever.
arti_llery Oct 2, 2021 @ 7:50pm
You can leave him in there after it's cleared, and never have to deal with the concord 5 at all. Done this my last 3 games.
Just means you won't get all the minute men stuff going, but that's not necessary to play.
Edit: just don't reenter the museum after clearing things out with the power armor.

First of all what happened to the Out of Time quest? The one that starts with Codsworth and clearing the bugs in Sanctuary. You complete that quest and then When Freedom Calls starts. How so many people missed that I do not know. Out of Time being skipped is probably why the scripts for Preston on the balcony is not working.

As far as Sim Settlements 2 goes you only need to do When Freedom Calls up to the point you clear Concord of all hostiles. Whether you finish the quest or not is up to you. Keep in mind you will not get access to certain plots related to the Minuteman quests if you ignore the quests.

When it comes to console commands to skip around stages while using Sim Settlements I do not recommend it at all. The developers firmly oppose that you use those commands because it breaks quest scripts. The SS2 developers made a list of proper script commands to skip quests on the Sim Settlement 2 website.

I'm using an alternate start mod so I never got Out of Time, but I've been using that mod for years and this problem never cropped up before.

That is your problem.
https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/en/getting-started/known-issues
Mods that alter the vanilla questline
Examples of these mods that are known to cause issues:

Clean and Simple - Settlement Startup
Start Me Up
You can blame SS2 for not posting it on the Nexus site.
They want you to use their website instead.
Guess copy/paste is too complicated.

That's still weird, I've used both together before and it didn't have this issue. Maybe the newest SS2 updated breaks Start Me Up?

I dunno, either way I'm too tired to try and fix any mod incompatibilites or start over from scratch, so I'm just gonna see if SS2 recognizes that Concord is cleared out if I just murder the raiders in the museum without Freedom Calls being active. If not, I'll just use the SS2 mod config to unlock every plot type and skip out on the quest entirely.

If you dig through their forums you can find the console command to skip to the quest after clearing the museum.

I don't even stop to talk to Preston. Just kill all the raiders in the street and in the museum, run past him as he says "That's it?! Just going to walk away", grab the minigun and power armor, jump off the roof, and run home. Leave those whiny cowards up there the whole game!

You misunderstand.

I said that I - personally - skip to the castle quest.

But the command I listed is for the concord quest.

How is you skipping the Castle quests is relevant to the OP's problem in Concord?
Zotliatlicor Oct 3, 2021 @ 1:57pm
Anyhow, please go talk to Codsworth and see if it end your trouble. That is the proper order of things in the game.

You can bypass him, and go directly to Concord, but this will ALWAYS have Preston disabled and the door to him & Sturges perma closed, in a non modded game.

Nonsense. "Out of time" has nothing to do with "when freedom calls". These are completelty different quest lines: out of time is MQ, freedom calls is MM

Out of Time is the pre-requisite quest.

If you actually read the topic or at least posts from the OP:

The OP skipped Out of Time and that was why When Freedom Calls did not start.

Which is EXACTLY what happened to the OP.
