Purple tree textures and crash issues caused Fallout 4 mod
I recently installed a lot mods for Fallout 4 and ran into a problem:

I loaded the game through F4SE loader. Game ran fine, but I noticed purple tree textures (probably caused by the "Boston Natural Surroundings" because this mod affects trees). For some reason, these textures can only be seen from a great distance. When I approached the weird textures, the trees returned to normal. Same thing happened with purple building textures. Here's the screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/ry2GGwN

I later found out that I missed a step that requires these two lines to be added to the Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4.ini files (instruction from the Boston mod page on Nexus):
[General]
bUseCombinedObjects=1
bPreCulledObjectsEnabled=1
I added these lines, then launched F4SE, it loaded into a black screen for a moment, then crashed to desktop. Problem resolved when I removed the two lines above. So it seems that the "Boston" mod is the possible culprit of these issues (it may have caused incompatibilities, or my load order was wrong, but I don't know). Removing the mod would probably solve the problems, but the thing is I really want to keep this "Boston" mod. Here's my load order: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wJGUnZuK1jTBh0ASlmJerYnxwSqXi73m/view?usp=sharing

Also, I installed these mods from the Nexus site in this order (which I believe that caused the problems):
- Boston Natural Surroundings (I picked tree-only version so that it could go with the True Grass mod): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/30673?tab=description
- True Grass: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/23469
- BOREALIS mod with these files installed in order: "BOREALIS GRASS" (main file), "BOREALIS LANDSCAPE" (main file), "BOREALIS - BNS LOD" (optional file): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/42022/?tab=description
- Better Grass Landscape: I installed the main file, then the optinal file: "Better Landscape Grass - Borealis" (probably a compatibility patch for Borealis): https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/38360?tab=description

Appreciate it if anyone can suggest a solution.

It's probably a version mismatch. BNS has had several versions, each changing the trees. So if you are using it with another mod that has LODs, you need to check that those mods are compatible with BNS LODs.
How do you do this? Check the version numbers of the files and/or the upload dates. If a mod with LODs is loaded after BNS that has an earlier date, then it might not work. You would have the use an earlier version of BNS.
Why? Because the LOD files are created from the mods with the actual objects.

Thanks for quick reply. As stated, I used the 'tree-only" version (2.4) of the BNS mod to avoid incompatibility with the True Grass mod. So is this the problem? Also, how do I know that a mod have LOD files?

BNS Trees Only was created in Feb 2021.
The file that contains LODs you want to use has to be based on that version of BNS.
So it has to have a creation date after Feb 21.
Borealis BNS LOD was created in 2019.
2019 is earlier than 2021 so it's unlikely that Borealis BNS LODs match the version of BNS that you are using.

Ah, I see now. So it means that I have to use the BNS version 2.0, which was created on 18 Sep, 2019, right? Borealis is made on 10 Nov, 2019. BNS 2.0 is made on 18 Sep, 2019.

Maybe. If not, just keep rolling back until you hopefully find the one that works. Then if not, read posts to see if there is a solution.

Thanks. Is there any other problem that I should look into? Like the crash that I mentioned? BNS requires that I add two additional text lines in the Fallout4Custom.ini file. But after that, the game crashed on launch. Any reason for that?

Nevermind. I found the problem. I installed the Boston FPS Fix mod, which requires those two lines to be deleted.

Modding is trial and error, especially with lots of mods. Any single mod could cause a crash. But if something worked and then didn't, it's probably the result of a change. So undo it. Always read the forums before using a mod. BNS has had its problems in the past. I don't use it.

By the way, thanks a lot for your help, man. No more purple thingies.
