His personality is from a pre-war police detective. Who would have made that remark about rads.
Even codsworth brag about this problem. ''Mam(Sir) becareful we are taking too much radiation''. I hardly think companion get damage from radiation only by falling. They can't even drown for gods sake!

I saw documentaries, in Chernobyl, even robots would fail due to intense radiation. Perhaps its awkward to reduce damage to a trickle in the game mechanics.

One thing I think should be modified is that Nick should need a robot repair kit rather than stimpacks. Perhaps someone created a mod for that, can't be too hard.

Robots being affected by radiation besides the point, Nick Valentine was a human, thus the synth thinks like the human.

I always gave companions modded armor and power suits.

Companions have been immune to rads since the original Fallout (mid 90's).

Translation: The devs have never bothered to implement radiation mechanics for anybody other than the player character. :D

But I do think it's valid to suggest (for lore/ headcanon only) that robots and synths experience minor effects from radiation, that don't necessarily show up as immediate HP loss like in (player) humans.

'We' is a figure of speech. It would be like saying 'you guys', even when your talking to females and not guys.

Speech is not always 'literal'.

They're saying that "we" (as a group) are taking rads, even though it will only be a problem for one of us. They're still getting hit by radiation, it's just not doing anything to them.

I don't think it's any kind of stretch to assume that Fallout robots are routinely hardened against radiation. The Institute designed their mechanical synths to operate in the radioactive wasteland, and pre-war robots were either frequently around radiation because no-one cared about safety, or directly use it as their power source. Codsworth in particular has an atomic engine, as he mentions in one of his companion comments.
