Vault 111 has a water supply (you can still use the sinks).
There was the overseer's quarters and quarters for the personell as well as a "central" room where you find the "entertainment" terminal.
Everyone who worked there lived pretty much together in a general community setting until their food supplies became so scarce that a rebellion eventually took place so those who were still there could leave the vault.
But the impression I get is that nobody ever left the vault and it's why we find so many skeletons laying around before we leave it.
well the vault itself is build minimalistic by the devs, it makes hardly sense. Vaults were made for LONG time use, and as such considered getting babies and such.
it clearly looks like the overseer or whoever the guy in the first desk is supposed to be was shot. theres two shot holes in the walls behind his skeleton.
I think this happened when they kidnapped the baby.
it could be, that the security staff revolted as they wanted, yet if so they seemed not to be able to exit the vault since all the skeletons are still around if we take bedcount into consideration too. But what ames no sense are the radroches, while they act as easy intro targets for the game, without anyone living there and corpses long dead and the vault sealed they have no livelihood at all. And it is questionable if the vault was used as temporary base for the staff that may have exited it. Which could also be, btu then i would expect more dirt and more salvaged stuff from the outside brought within the vault.
Also, if I read that correctly, the 180 days are a mandatory MINIMUM they have to be sealed. After that they need to wait for a all cleaf from vault tech. Which in case of a nucleaf falout surely wouldn't be "soon". So aside from trapping in the inhabitants this would also trap the staff, because surely they know they cannot go back to surface.
this leaves me wondering what the point of the experiment is, because if this experiment is executed when the fallout starts (and not starting and ending before) there isn't even anyone relevant left to do somethign with the results of the experiment.
the cryo vault was just there to keep people in cryosleep potentially testing suspension tech for space travel. the support staff was only there to keep an eye on it in the early stages and if nothing happened in 6 moths then they considdered it not likely that something would happen later.
the supportstaff was disposable and never planned to survive.
Ok yes, their actiona gainst the overseers may have happened earlier, the entries document 2077. but that doesn't means they couldn't have stayed in there longer. in fact a few things are off, they say they have hardly any food anymore yet you find remains of food. logically they would have send a aquat of scouts to see if ther eis soemthign to gather, the vault itself is a safe place by entrance and vs radiation also providing clean water. Not sure what radiation levels would be just a few month after the bombs.

the vaults you are refering to are called ''control vaults'' they were actually never meant to be opened ever at all in some cases. the vast majority of them was social experiments and as such ''disposable'' in the eyes of repopulating the world.

But who would ahve been there to benefit from the results of the experiments? Sow hats the point of makign those expensive vaults when no real outcome would have happened from it? if ther eis no major center caulttech vult collecting the data, who is suposed to sue those data for cryo space flight? Why would they need a vault to do this and not just use a set of volunteers without requiring a nuklear holocaust? And especially letting them (the staff) exit early withinto the radiation. No one really would benefit from the data except those looting it first, which would be the worst way of aquiring and storing data. This seriously makes no sense. In the end to receive a all clear signal Vault tech must somewehre posses a base headquarter and some radio signals.
vaulttec had no intention for them to live for very long.
where is the source for that dna sample being a thing? afaik it was only to see and test how cryo works.
gen 1s probably got the location of 111 from the vaulttec headquarters and then the insitute saw a genebank.
vaulttec was a front for several corporations doing research Enclave wanted to learn about population control and the vaults were excellent at that purpose. braun was given his own playground after he created the GECK device which would enable the US to dedicate to MAD and still will.
Enclave wanted Pop controll
US goverment wanted to ''protect its citizens and culture'' at a small fee.....
random medical wanted Pathogen testing ground Vault 81
Robco wanted to have safe locations for robots to claim territory after MAD (newvegas)
US military wanted a central command base after MAD Vault 0, and genetic supersoldiers FEV labs Mariposa being the largest
ofcourse you need to be able to see if you can actually go outside again and to crossrefrence the tests with and thats why there are controll vaults and why they are staggered in when they are supposed to open.
The vault program would have been a huge succses if the calculator in vault 0 didnt get corrupted.
but that was never its designed purpose, it was a unintended event.
had the institute unfrozen the entire population they would then gather the data regarding the process of thawing the cryosleepers essentially finishing the experiment. but since they killed everyone but 2 the entire experiment is worthless and is sadly reduced to nothing more then a very limited genebank.
there is not enough DNA there to build a sustainable population but it could be used to revitalize a already sustainable population such as the institutes.
what did they do? they made synths, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ waste.
Vault 13 was never ever meant to open untill they were needed and it fullfilled that purpose
Vault 15 was a cultural disaster waiting to happen it was an experiment, vault 15 is found derlicted and unusble but it still did its job.
