Nicky Valentine won’t wear any clothes
Aight so Nicky ain’t wearing his faded trench coat or any other apparel that I try to give him, the option for equipping things on him however, (which is “T” in my case) won’t pop up. Furthermore, when I try to spawn in a faded trench coat or I grab the one that I got during the quest, those won’t turn up in my inventory. Does anyone know any console commands or bug fixes that may help? I’ve already tried the “recycleactor” command but that doesn’t seem to work.

Thats normal, no bug. Its intended or at least the same for everybody unless you find a mod around it. Nick refuses to wear anything but his hat and trenchcoat, not even glasses work. T only works for weapons at him.

If the trenchcoat isn't even appearing in your own inventory when you pick it up, it sounds like a problem with the coat, rather than with Nick Valentine. I would say to check your mods and validate your game files as part of basic procedure.

The faded trenchcoat you receive as the quest reward is something he can normally wear, and putting ballistic weave on it is one of the few ways to improve him as a companion.

Nick's race is "synth race." It is possible that some poorly planned mod has removed tags that would allow him to use gear that he should be able to wear.

Use of console is safe in this case:
  • If item is in Nick's inventory, target Nick through console and type: ShowInventory
  • Get RefID for the coat from the list.
  • Type: EquipItem RefID

If game had a problem to populate keywords, then that should solve the problem. Otherwise there might be something wrong with either your official files or mods, which affects to keywords in the game.

but now i try to put something on him and i get the same results, not working.
i wish i remembered what mods i had installed at that time that might have changed things so that i could do that.

I'm using a shower mod and Nick's behavior seems to be backwards from any NPC that uses them. Default behavior is to strip to undies and use shower, Then redress. Nick will idle-use a shower fully dressed, And leave it fully dressed but the very next time a transition happens for the player (fade to black) Nick will suddenly be naked.

If someone has more insight into Nick's programming in the FO4 kit, I'd love to know why he's so.. Special. XD

I think you'd have to know about what the shower mod is doing as well. But it could be something to do with Nick having a base set of clothes somehow built-in, since I remember someone say something about his visibly mechanical hand being part of an outfit.

Off-topic, the mention of showers reminded me of a roguelike game called Cataclysm, where one of the starting choices was to be someone who was in the shower when the zombie apocalypse happened, and you start out dressed in a towel, with hardly any equipment. :steamhappy:

That could be it. "Special" outfits the player wears will sometimes not re-wear when you're done with a shower. In example, The Silver shroud costume before it becomes a non-quest item. You might be onto something.

I gave Nick Kellog's outfit which looked pretty good on him. Bonus was it has gloves so his mechanical hand looks like a normal gloved hand.
