Is There A VATS Crash fix yet?
I'm wondering because I have not been able to finish the game because this vats crash has started since the last update for me. I tried every fix in the book, the ones found online, youtube, even the ones bethesda sent me. I play with only 5 quality of life mods that don't really change anything in vats (carryweight increase, 3 difficulty increasing mods, and increased power armor HP because I was tired of getting every piece broken after one hit.) I also experimented without mods. Still VATs Crashed. Started a new game without mods. Still VATs Crash. Nothing I do works. I have a gtx geforce 1660 ti and 8 gigs of ram. And a quad core intel chip. I rarely ever had problems with Fallout 4 (the occasional glitch, the crash when tabbing out, the usual bethesda stuff.) but this has literally been a game breaking bug that literally prevents me from playing. Cause there is no way I will play a Fallout game without VATs.

There hasn't been a fix... cause this isn't really an issue for other people. Your Ram would be the most likely culprit. If your playing on Ultra settings, try switching to basic High def, then medium. Lower Antialising and Anistropic filtering. Your Gpu can handle 2560x1440 at its highest setting, but Idk your Cpu's strength and @ 8Gb of Memory, your Gpu is basically suffocating and can't run at full power.

Alot of people say disabling "weapon debris" fixes crashing issues. Limit your frames to 60(or the Geforce Gtx 1660's preferred specs). Also verifying files integrity is never a bad idea.

I did lower it to high even down to medium and tried it on low. Still happens. The fix you are suggesting was already suggested by Bethesda. Didn't work. I even have weapons debris disabled. Maybe its the ram but can you explain why this is happening now since the last update? It doesn't make sense. I am nearly at the end of the game and then this happens out of the blue?

If its just been doing this since the last update, then there is a problem with that update and your current drivers from Nvidia. I would recommend looking for an update for your Gpu or uninstalling the last update from Steam(not necessarily recommended, as it usually isn't a good idea to go backwards just yet).

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/download/
You can also try contacting Nvidia through the Geforce Experience or email them another way, for a possible fix, as this is clearly somekind of stability/compatibility issue. You could also try disabling fog. Just to see if it has any effect.

Also u never mentioned if u had verified file integrity(apologies if u have). Cause if all of the above fails, then that means the problem HAS to be in the games source code. Specifically wherever the protocols for V.A.T.S are.

Edited. Also Update your Bios. Sorry I forgot to add

I have verified the file integrity several times and even moved the game to two different drives including the OS drive and it still happens. I have tried contacting Nvidia when I read an article that it could be Nvidia drivers, but I updated the drivers 3 times since then and it still happens. And their response was a generic "Send us your Dxdiag, blah blah. Try this and that" same ♥♥♥♥ Bethesda did. But on a side note, Bethesda did mention that they are aware of this bug and they are trying to fix it. Which is why I asked if they rolled out a fix yet. (Which they haven't.. I just checked.. still crashes) I can show you the email they sent me. (Took me 4 tries at support to get an actual person to respond and not another generic automated self help instruction.)

I believe u on the email man. I'm sorry this is happening, but like I said, this isn't really an issue for other players(that note about being aware and working on a fix is typical PR BS). Just look at this post. Nobody else is saying anything cause they aren't having this issue(atleast not consistently) and don't know what advice to give.

Maybe a perk that increases V..A.T.S accuracy(which rolls a number your Ram or GPU doesn't like), a Mod(?). Could be an old registry error(unlikely, but possible). Personally my money is on the games program and .ini files have/were modified in someway while playing, aka leveling up and an error occurred when it was written. Meaning it is a Bethesda issue and the V.A.T.S protocols in the games files need to be restored to the start of the games default. Cause it wasn't an issue when u started correct? It just suddenly became 1.

In regards to Nvidia and its drivers, if they r reading the rest of the game and its not crashing(except when using V.A.T.S) that means your 1660 is reading the game correctly. Its a Bethesda issue(we're all shocked I know.) but thats gotta be it. Everything else has been ruled out. Except Registry(do u use Ccleaner or some kind of Registry patching program, specifically to delete old Registry issues and pathways?) Again this is unlikely to be the problem.

I'm not too savvy with Mods, but maybe u can look for one in regards to V.A.T.S to try to overwrite the base games data? Thats all I can recommend.

Late Edit as I forgot this was brought up. U could also try uninstalling that last update from Steam(?), Bethesda(?), Windows(?), whomever it came from

I tried uninstalling the patch and I cleaned my registry. Nothing more I can do. I don't have a mod that alters VATs or the UI in any way. Like I said, I have like 4 or 5 mods and they just increase carry weight and makes the game harder.

Oooh. U might've just revealed the issue. How exactly did u clean the registry? The mods u listed r almost certainly not causing this, especially since u did try disabling and playing without them so I wouldn't worry about them.

Though if u r interested u could always use the console to set carryweight, u don't a mod to do that. Personally I'm more interested in hearing about your registry fixes.

I'd reset your ini config files, rename them and let F4 create fresh ones

LOL thats the THIRD thing I tried, right after verifying file integrity and moving it to another drive. Unfortunately it doesn't work. What I am going to try next is to borrow someone elses computer, mirror the game and the mods onto his PC (He has 16 gig ram) and see if the problem persists. If it doesn't, then it's a ram issue.

Try this mod

Use the Experimental Version and switch INI to 4x

I played with no VATS to level 80, thought it was a minor thing to be ignored... :steamhappy:
Now that I have the perks & the modded weapons and armor, IT IS... :steamsalty:
