UFO Crash Event - Possible Spoilers?!
Ok, so apparently it's a thing. The event only popped up for me during secondary playthrough, and frankly, I didn't even catch it, I just overheard Danse's comment about it while we were in a vertibird heading to Prydwen. Then, I saw a video on youtube about different companions' reactions to this event. Question, when does it actually occur? I would like to figure out why it has never popped up for me during my first playthrough and what is the significance of said event? I am super confused about it.

It triggers randomly around level 15-20 when changing outdoor cells, or when exiting a building...

It's actually fairly easy to miss, if you don't hear the explosion/sonic boom, or see it shoot over head...

It creates a crash site, where by you can then find a blood trail from a surviving alien carrying the Alien Blaster, a unique energy weapon...

It is easy to miss, if you are doing something else. If you are out in the open, then you will hear it flying above you and crashing in to distance. You usually do not get to see it, but you will most certainly hear it, if you are not in the combat.

The first time it happened to me was when I stood at the top of the screen in Starlight. I almost jumped from my stool in RL and down from the screen in game. Codsworth commented about it immediately.

Last I heard it was a triggered event after you reach level 20. Not for sure tho.
You can miss it pretty easy if you're in combat or something.

If you go to the crash site (look to the south of Oberland Station), you can track an alien inside a cave nearby. He's always been hostile to me but drops a cool weapon when he dies.

So, it's all about the weapon, so sub-story or quest? Ok! Thanks! *off she goes to search for spaceships*

No real story as such, just the crash itself and a unique encounter and item...

Not far from the place you are looking for, there is a nice wee bit of black humour. Quite amusing.

A bit of useful - not much - loot can be picked up and it respawns.

One thing to note is if you find the cave before activating the regional comm tower you won't be able to turn off the alien distress station.

Are you sure? I'm pretty sure it's just a matter of clicking on the ham radio in the cave? As I certainly didn't follow the radio signal - I was attracted by the flaming wreckage at night...

To my knowledge, you can just diable the ham radio
the UFO event is an easter egg, no spoilers and such

iirc all fallout titles have at least one UFO event.
