Sneaking in this game is the worst..
skyrim wasn't the best game for sneaking, as you know you can sneak in front of the enemies nose.

FO4 you can sneak but you'll get spotted 100 (Exageration) yards away, anyone know of a good mod to actually fix this?

Darker Nights has some enemy-detection options.

You know you actually have to skill into sneak to sneak and you better stay alone..and mod your armor parts to lower detection...and dont move into plain sights at high noon and...

So often i was actually suprised with a raider standing next to me..when i was distracted from something..i didnt notice the raider because he didnt react on me.

listen to music while playing.... recipe for doom.

What is your armor weight? What level of Sneak perk. Do you have any Covert Operations Mags? Do you use Shadowed armor?

By lvl 30 with 4 pts in sneak, shadowed / light weight leather armor and 5 Covert Magazines I'm able to sneak around like a bandit. I've shot guys and had their companions walk right up to me while I'm crouched beside a door without detection.

5x legendary chameleon armor = never get spotted :P
Also stealthboy power armor works...
Otherwise just max sneak perk and only use ballistic weave clothing.
Also agility bonuses help *slightly*.

yea, you need to have sneaking perks, like Sneak perk itself, US Covert Ops and maybe some armor pieces with the legendary Chameleon effect in order to sneak effectively.
if you don't have those, consider using a Stealth Boy. :)
Yes, there's a fantastic mod which alters nearly every aspect of the AI including stealth, combat behavior, tactics - all in one. You can toggle various settings and it's got various options to personalize the mod.

Ill look and try to not have a companion too lol

Companions ruin stealth in this game.
Deacon isn't as bad as the rest, but still much better to be solo if you want to stealth :)

You need skills. You can stealth np without any perks or armor mods. You just need to take it slow and stay out of line of sight.

I do agree that sneaking is bad in fallout 4, the sneak system was so much better in Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion and Skyrim, I'm not sure what bethesda changed in fallout 4 to ruin it

Turn off your flashlight and radio.

Yes.
Sneaking is a skill, don't get too close. Use cover. Don't expect the game to do it all for you.

In Oblivion, sneaking could involve permanent 100% chameleon on your armour, and being literally impossible for enemies to detect (except those turret things inside the Oblivion gates). I don't remember what it was like, otherwise, so I suppose it must have worked well enough.
