I forgot to mention I had that mod already. Only works with certain companions, like Ada or Curie.
EDIT: It works if you have your companions already sent to a settlement in the past, hence "assigned" them to a settlement. Gee, wish they put that in the description.

No idea if it works with UCF as I don't use it. Never had a single issue trading or any dialogue function with that.
The companion trade hotkey has for me worked for every companion without a hitch. Such a fantastic mod. Wish the command function would work with unconventional companions/slaves.
Not sure which mod you are referencing but CCT works with all companions. At least under .163.
