The one where if you just pick it up by transfering it to the workbench while looking through the window at it then retrieve it from the workbench and head out a short time later you see the message combat shotgun removed then find it back in its trap position back at the boathouse. Apparently removing it from the trap by storing it in the workbench did not disarm the trap so when it reset the gun left inventory and returned to its position.
I am thinking that some of the items dogmeat retrieves may be setup in some similar manner and just goes right back to where he picked them up when he drops them because he retrieved them instead of the player.
Edit:
If I may add,
ITEM SPOILER, BEWARE

Don't forget - Dogmeat can get that special gun for you still to this day

And they are similar for almost all Companions
HTH
Me either. If I do not have a companion then I would be playing Borderlands.
Companions tend to "find" items and ammo and put them in their inventory. It's kind of why you sometimes see companions all of a sudden firing something other than their default gun if you didn't give it to them in the first place. But there's no animation of them actually picking it up, they just suck them up non-chanlanty without telling you.
Dogmeat on the other hand will usually bark and the notification that he's found something should appear. If you follow him he picks up the item with his mouth and turns to you. At this point you can pick it up from his mouth by pushing "E," but if you don't do anything for a second or two it will disappear from his mouth and just go to his inventory.
So far these have always been items there are phsycially dropped in the world (hand placed items and or guns enemies had equipped when you killed them) and never items from containers. Not sure about humanoid companions.
