The Curse of Jamaica Plain
Seriously, did they build this on an old Indian burial ground? First there's the treasure fiasco, then the demise of the treasure hunters, now it's my jankiest workshop. There's the boarded up house that takes up a third of the real estate. My settlers all wander around outside the workshop zone, I have to track them until one steps just inside the green wall then assign them before they get away again.

It's best feature is the small raider camp nearby within artillery range. Seems like overkill to drop so much ordnance on two raiders, but...

You can get a mod to increase the size of it here, it will cover the whole town area

The bell on a post you can build will bring your settlers to the bell when rung. Ring it it and then assign the unassigned settlers.
Jamaica Plain is a crappy settlement spot.

70 % of settlement are in bad . or very bad .. spots.

IIRC only decent settlements are the one in the swamp out in the middle of nowhere that you have to fight the mirelurk queen for and vault 88. And the swamp one is kind of tiny to boot, just there's a load of free space (without mods).

Not all available settlements should merit your care and attention. Huge waving red flag: Woefully inadequate space for resource development. Don't build them up; just let them die.

At least it's not Covenant.

They are all buildable, it just takes some creative thinking

I remember getting around 25 people or so in places like hangmans alley for example without any mods in one of my playthrough's and had just enough space for everything

I can fit things in Hangman's Alley, it's more a question of how much ugliness I'm prepared to accept in the design. :steamhappy:

Abernathy, Sanctuary Starlight, specture island huge areas to build, in , i actually do not like the one in the swap, its probably on of my least favourites after jamica plain.

I don't so much mind the smaller space on some of them as the various bits of debris and structures that get in the way, but can't be removed (never mind the various corpses/skeletons that love to keep getting in the way).

Coastal Cottage is one of the worst (including an unscrappable couch), but the Murkwater Construction Site is definitely annoying.

The areas you mention all have huge unsalvagable structures that ruin them. The swamp one IIRC the only thing that's non salvagable is a digger. The larger areas aren't as meaningful when 50% of it is taken up by things you can't remove.

I mean base game of course. I understand it there's mods that let you get rid of everything on every settlement site, but I couldn't get it to run stably on FO4VR so no first hand experience.

Jamaica Plains you just have to build up, you can build on the roofs of the buildings.
Settlers wandering out of the settlement can be a bit annoying though...
Same with murkwater and similar settlements, you just need to build big boxes in the sky lol.

Murkwater is actually nice because it always gets attacked from the same direction, so you can put up giant concrete walls with fast travel point in front and blap everything while the settlement is protected.

I don't like the giant island because it doesn't always fully load in (it's too big), can be really annoy when your power is in a different cell from your water purifiers...

omg and lol. Sounds like Oberland Station. 20 settlers and seems like half of them have a pet Brahmin, and they all cram into the fenced garden area.

I normally use Egret Tours Marina as my home settlement. Jamaica Plain, Oberland, and Hangman's I set up as "help defend". Just keep five settlers at each.

Something else that works pretty regular for me is the "build defenses" task. For instance in Oberland I put one machine gun turret on top of the building which gives 5 defense then I build two guard posts but don't assign a settler. Build up the food and water. A settler will ask you to help them build some defenses. Take a settler from food and set to guard posts and the attack will begin. After attack set the settler back to food. The task will reset and a settler will give again a few days later.

Erm, the digger? there is also the shed the workshop is in and the remains of the house. just as much or not cluttered as everywhere else really.

Out of all of them startlight, Abernathy, Spectacle Island(just do not build near the houses, its huge), north hagen beach have the most amount of real estate you can build on. While they do have unscrapable buildings, you still get a huge amount of space you can play with.

Grey garden and finch farm I have fun building up and using the highways to build on too (there is also more stuff to scrap up there :) )
