You can't use mods without logging into bethesda.net anymore?
What the hell is this about??

You can still use Nexus mods freely.

It's been a while since I played, so help me remember this.

All my mods come from Nexus, but you used to be able to check your installed mods at the in game menu, right?

I got a load error on my most recent save so I went into the mods tab to see what that was about and was prompted to log into bethesda.net.

I forgot my password, so went through the password reset, which doesn't appear to be working because I can't seem to figure out a permissible password combination. Sent an email to support but I expect that to be ignored.

So now what? I have to use NMM?

It is true that menu lacks the previous Data Files view. But in all honestly, no one actually modding the game never really used that anyway.

Use a mod manager to install your mods. Nexus, other sites and blogs are filled with nice mods to add in to your game.

Use Nexus Mod Manager or Mod Organizer.
You have choices.

Yes the ingame tools have always required a log in to beth.net once you linked accounts.

There are other tools and methods out there. But use the website to get your password issues settled. They do fix them.

I'll give NMM a whirl.

If you have patience for a bit wider learning curve, then I would recommend using Mod Organizer 2.1.1 instead. Final release of NMM was notably buggy. It will get replaced by a new mod manager called Vortex soon.

In the mean time, MO2.1.1 is the best option, if you plan using wider mod lists in your game.

If you are using small list, then NMM might to. Just remember that several mod authors have warned about not to use it, when updating mods. You might have to update many mods manually, if you choose to use NMM.

Thanks for this. I have probably 25 or so mods installed, I'll just wait. I'm not into spending hours and hours figuring out learning curves or load orders.

you dont need to log into bethesda.net to sort your load order ingame, if you have no connection to the server or if you somply be not logged in you should be able to enter the mod menue and when you see the log in window there is a load order button on the lower side of the screen.

there you can sort your load order manually regardless of beeing logged in or not. At least it works for me.

Well Mod Organizer is not as hard to learn. You might try after all. Just look for tabs allowing you to sort your plugin list, i do recommend using clean installation as well, mod manager can install mods without touching game's files being in same time easier to remove. It does also allow for dedicated saves for profiles. It also has loot which will help you to sort load order.

I recommend dumping mod organizer once NMM 2 (Vortex) comes out, for any future readers.

We do not yet know how it turns out. Archive Invalidation has been removed from Vortex (because people didn't bother to read/watch any tutorials about how resources work) and current virtualization system has been changed.

It might be that Vortex is not going to be for all, who are used to use MO for BGS games. I expect it to replace NMM for other games out of the box. We will see what happens with BGS games.

MO2 is still under development and support. Plenty of people here are acting as testers for it - including myself, but most notably cfs111. They are still ironing out bugs.

I am currently making logs to solve out an issue with MO2.1.1 sometimes refusing to close, after running applications through it. Minor issue that is easy to bypass, but still an issue we are ironing out from it.

I still don't trust nmm after all these years, I dont see how a new version will help when they can't fix the one they have. Although i did see them looking for a programmer a while back. Who knows maybe it actually will be better.

So far the current build of vortex shares quite a few features that mod organizer has in stock, not all of them, and they're still working out kinks but things are looking promising.
I'd use Mod Organizer if they'd bother to fix the current issues it has.

The only issue is that MO is tailored specifically for beth games and more importantly fallout 4 / skyrim, and Vortex would have to be suited for everything they offer which may vary in usability.

Which ones?

I am using MO2.1.1 for Fallout 4, without any relevant issues. Only thing that I had to deal with was to point BodySlide to custom folder, when running Batch Build.

If there are some spesific issues you are facing, then I can check from the team.
