(SOLVED) I saw enemy markers on my (survival) compass today
After my initial playthrough on Very Hard, I started a survival game. Glad I did the VH first, because the settlements/food/supply lines - no console commands - sure take a lot of time. Now that I know the story already, I can be more relaxed, and enjoy the tougher fights :)

Due to other projects I stopped playing end of November and continued tonight with the exit save from Nov 27, 2017.

Steam installed some 150MB of updates and off we go ... I walk over from Tenpines to Zimonja, snipe one of the baddies, when all of a sudden - I see three red enemy markers on my compass. Like before, in very hard. After the fight, I exited again and looked at "settings". Sure enough, it said "Survival". And the savegame filename is a survival type (no underscore, but S)

How could that be? No mods except visual enhancements, no gameplay changes ...

Bug or feature? I rather liked the suspense of not knowing where your enemies were.

Edit Feb.12, 2018: I found the solution yesterday, when I did the Railroad quest "Randolph" in University point: Whenever the quest title says "Clear" (clear Outpost Zimonja, clear hostiles in University point), the enemies are highlighted / shown on the compass.

These are NOT "enemy" markers but "quest" markers, that's why they appear even in Survival mode.

Sounds like a bug, but could be a feature as well.

Some vanilla modifications (requiring Science perks to craft) can mark enemies to your compass. Is it possible that you have crafted or acquired modifications like that in the game?

Thanks for your reply, Ilja!

I took science 1 very early to get Chemist for Antibiotics, but I never bought mods.

And - now that I think of it - the fact that on my way over to Zimonja I ran into a bunch of bloodbugs and bloatflies without warning suggests that the compass markers weren't there then, only 5 minutes before the Boomer encounter. Strange.

I'll continue from a new save in Zimonja, and see what tomorrow brings. 15 minutes is not a lot to replay if need be. Weird, though.

You do not need Science for Chemist and Antibiotics.

Didn't really understood "never bought mods." I presume you meant "never crafted modifications in game?"

Hopefully it was just a glitch. If it continues and none of the items you are carrying causes this, then we could check the integrity of your game files. Just in case there is something wrong with them.

Ah, memory leak - I mixed up two different decisions: I upgraded INT to 6 and 7 in order to select Scíence and Chemist.

The "never bought" was in answer to your question " ... that you have crafted or bought ..."
I did craft mods for my weapons. But mostly Receiver/Barrel/Stock mods. What (in-game) mods would affect the compass?
Far as I remember, I used science for maybe scopes (? no recon scopes yet) and laser weapons (but no laser weapon on my survival playthrough, not enough carry weight)

I'll report back tomorrow.

Started the game today at yesterday's exit save, went to Atomic Galleria, met Mirelurks. No enemy markers, everything back to normal. Must have been a one time glitch ...

Recon sensors on power armor, or recon scopes can do that. They mark mobs.

Plus I think they will do it even if companions are using the items.
