Anyway, what she means is she'll catch up to you in a minute or so. I was personally more confused by all the things Dogmeat found until I realised he'd picked them up.
Ok I know this is old but for anyone who experienced this, I fixed it by simply exiting the game and when I started it up again I could talk/trade/dismiss piper again. Hope this helps
P.S. Happened to me when I first discovered the RR.

Huh, I didn't think of it that way, but that's exactly my story too. I had one last night with Piper, then shipped off for a month of intrigue and adventure in Far Harbor with Nick. I never looked back.
