Pip-Boy App

Just out of curiousity: I noted under settings the option to turn ON/OFF Pip-Boy App. So I went a'Huntin to understand what exactly the Pip-Boy App does. I found several threads about people having problems getting it to run on a secondary device (IPhones, Tablets, etc.)... but I've yet to read an explaination as to Why Have/Use the Pip-Boy App.

So can anyone explain what exactly is the purpose of the Pip-Boy App? What does it do? What's it's Purpose? Etc. Etc. Etc.

I'd hate to go through all the headaches to get it up and running; only to find out it doesn't really serve any purpose.

The Pip-Boy app is a mobile app that turns your phone, tablet, or whatever into a pip-boy device.
You have to be on the same network as your computer, and allow the game through your firewall, it'll let you open the map, switch your inventory, fast travel etc. without you having to hit tab.

And as an edit, you can also fast travel in survival mode too, unless they updated it without me being aware.

Thanx Ainz. Though I think I'm still missing a greater point. Why would you do this rather than doing the same thing in the game by hitting tab? I'd have to let go my KeyBoard and Mouse; turn away from my computer (technically) and then pick up my Tablet in lieu of justing hitting tab to bring up the In-Game Pip-Boy.

Note: I'm not trying to have a debate; I'm just hoping to understand what is gained from using the app.

If you got the money, shell out for a Pipboy replica Bethesda sold during the game's launch. So you can connect your iPhone into it and use it as an actual pipboy. Don't think it works with other phones due to the size of the interface

In my mind I am sitting in front of my computer playing FO4; suddenly I need to check my map... or quest goal... or inventory (for some reason), so I stop playing on my computer, pick up my tablet and access my Pip-Boy (instead of just using TAB and opening up the Pip-Boy in the game). I don't understand why I would want to do that!!!

Admittedly... it's kind of a cool feature that I would be able to do that; but after doing it once or twice (Just because I can)... it seems counter productive to actually use that feature while gaming.

Once more... I'm really not trying to debate the use of this... Good or Bad; I honestly trying to understand the point of using it.

Also it's just Cool, Being able to just look at your wrist to see where you are going/changing stations/equiping weapons armor and using stimpaks while not breaking combat or pausing the game with the pipboy.

In most cases, the pipboy app won't connect with any UI or item sorting mods installed. It will work with modded items, however. So if you do want to use the app but would rather have a more sane inventory, that's something to be aware of.

I did it like this and i dint had to stop playing

Once more I'm really not trying to start a debate on this; I believe to each their own (and in a case like this; No one is Right or Wrong; there are just preferences). Now with that said:

I have one hand on the KeyBoard; the other on the Mouse; if I need to use my tablet (even laying here in front of me) One (or most likely Both) hands are going to interact with the Tablet to access the Pip-Boy App; if that's the case then why not just hit TAB and interact with the Pip-Boy in-game?
