F4SE worth using?
The updates have stopped and people have stopped screaming that F4SE broke whenever an update was released, is it worth using now? What mods require it that are worthwhile?

I dont use it and my Fallout 4 is heavily modded. Used it for New Vegas though for the settlement and Highwayman mod.

If you're not using any mods that require it, F4SE isn't necessary. Some mods that require it:

Looksmenu
Place everywhere
Transfer Settlements Blueprints

................just to name a few

Place everywhere has always looked promising because I hate floating objects, but I've always managed by using the predecessor to that mod "Place Anywhere" which is just a Cheat Table. Or just using console commands.

That's perfectly fine if that works for you. In my own game, I use those 3 mods I listed and honestly, I consider them "must haves", especially Looksmenu. I also use "512 Standalone Hair Colors" and "LooksMenu Body Tattoos", both of which require F4SE.

Looksmenu is coming out with some very innovative features such as in-game bodyslide, randomly generated NPC bodies, and overlays, none of which would be possible without F4SE. It all depends on your game style but you might want to take a peek anyway.

Yes some heavily modded can have some amazing NPC screen shots. I used a few of those for the picture replacers actually.

F4SE = Fallout 4 Script Extender
The good thing about FASE is once you finally succeeded installing it, 'took me quite a while, you can leave it aside and use it at will only. I personnally use it for Looksmenu, and only for this, but I couldn't live without that greatest mod when I need it... in a gamer's way of speaking, of course.

Also don't be fooled by the name.. All you do is basically place some files in the fallout 4 data folder and use a different exe to start the game.. You will not even notice something. You can see the version name in fallout 4 menu ( to make sure it's installed).

Didn't catch the part "updates have stopped?" Did you mean game updates or F4SE updates?

F4SE was just updated to version 0.4.1. Recent updates have been quite rapid. It actually now has Papyrus functions, allowing mod authors to create more advance mods for Fallout 4.

It is not yet the F4SE that rip gates wide open, but those gates are no longer locked and you can squeeze through the holes.

At this point F4SE usability is still limited to certain mods. Mod authors, testers, forum regulars and people working with morphs are eagerly poking around it though. Development took big leaps over the spring. Hopefully we will see more soon.

If you need it or not depends on the mods you want to use.

In general I tend to say "If you plan on having lots of fairly complex mods, then yes."

The Script Extenders usually were essential for mods like Skyrim's SkyUI, New Vegas' Project Nevada, and every mod that had advanced scripting that was simply not part of the base games.

In general the SE's also made the bethesda-games a bit more stable. Most players complaining either used early and understandably buggier versions of the SE's, or they just screwed up their mod-builds and blamed the SE. And this is something many people did.

Consensus among players that use mods and have some understanding of modding is 'Yes to SE'.

And if you scroll up and read my last post, you'll see that some modders are incorporating some great new features into their mods.

So as redeyedraven is saying, that's definitely a big YES to F4SE.

If you load any mods with it, then achievements will be disabled.

But you can avoid that.
