Is it me or does vats suck in this game compared to the old games?
Compared to New Vegas and 3, vats doesn't seem worth it in this game. Right off the bat in the old games vats was pretty good but in this you have to heavily invest into it and sacrifice other perks. I think the levelling was done better in the old games.

Maybe because it was too good in 3 and nv?

They nerfed it hard. You can miss at point blank range. That and there's that delay sometimes.

You my good sir, need to do less drugs.

What are you talking about "heavily invest" ? Sacrifice? there is NO this-or-that, you've got your games backwards, son.

The main difference between 4 and the others 3D FPS Fallouts? There's NO CAP in 4! You want to be SPECIAL 10s across the board, every perk and 2 dozen points with no where to put them because you've got every possible stat at 183rd level?! Well go on then. That's 4.

The other games (including 1/2/Tactics) where you had to carefully choose you perks based on both level and level of your SPECIALs, was much more thought out, no jack-of-all-trades, not wasteland-gods, you specialized in ~2 weapons and 3 main skill trees, and if you ran out of ammo, you really took a beating using a weapon you had 15 skill in. :-)

Fallout 4 is a console game intended for 12-year-old boys who don't like GURPS style, a much wider audience than Fallout fans. See, we'll buy anything, even 76. But how do we get NEW players to spend $? Well we make it not-Fallout.

And how many people do you actually think play the game to 183 once they've completed the story?

make fallout fallout again

it was far too overpowered in Fallout 3 and NV. it freezes time and breaks the pacing of a fight, not that new vegas or 3 had good combat anyways. You also take like 90% less damage in vats. Fallout 4 has a much better vats system imo. it slows down time so youre not totally safe and the damage reduction you take is more like 60-70%. much more balanced if you asked me.

VATS was somewhat of an "I win" button in F3 and NV. It took some time to get used to the way it works in F4, but in the end it's a wash for me. I'm pretty much a VATS hound in all of the games, except for sniping.

It actually got nerfed considerably in NV. With the damage reduction being 25% rather than the 90% seen in both FO3 and FO4 it was quite easy to die during the sequence if you used it carelessly.

FO4s is different, but don't see it as being any weaker than in FO3.
With investment I find it to be stronger than ever. You couldn't use VATS to teleport, nor to shoot through solid concrete walls in the previous games.

You could definitely teleport with it prior to Fallout 4, since I had a melee character specializing in it (I'd have to check if it was Fallout 3 or New Vegas, though).

F:NV does for sure.

In the MT where you need your mostly antenna to thwack some mobius' bigger roboscorpions but you're up on top of the canyons in your very talkative X-13 stealth suit, so you just suicide jump and time your VATS entry... it's all very "Dishonored", Corvo. I never tried it with 4, I saw they added a melee/unarmed specific perk where you can reach opponents from farther, and figured that meant they "fixed" it... no, huh? lol no of course not.

Well in fallout 3 perception didn’t effect your vats.

The small/big guns skill did.
Yeah for every perception point you have you get plus 2 in those skills but that’s only effective for getting like 20 points.

In this game they removed skills so they had to make perception have more influence on vats shooting.

I'm not a fan of VATS, so I use a mod that enables non-VATS criticals. I can just ignore the VATS perks and go about my business.

VATS may not be as OP in FO4 as it was in earlier iterations, but Deliverer + VATS is still way OP.

the non-vats criticals mods are awesome,.. the only time i use vats is when i play with my gamepad cause aiming sux there.
but i believe there are mods that edit VATs time speed so it can be enjoyable for everyone, forgot the name
