Stuck in infinite death loop, what to do?
Hi

I'm playing on Survival and accidentally auto saved before I died (I'm using Gopher's SURVIVAL QUICK SAVE - No Sleep Till Bedtime), I was stuck in a reload and couldn't physically get away. I then accidentally saved on the death animation itself (I mapped stimpack next to the autosave hotkey which was a stupid mistake on my part).

I dunno what to do, I looked at the load options on the main menu and it only shows 3 saves for the character and they're all at the death animation. I'm level 16 or so, so why?

What should I do?

Thanks in advance

The quicksave option uses the autosave system and by default only saves 3 saves, over writing the oldest ones as new ones are made. If you wish to extend this you can add the following lines to Fallout4Custom.ini (usually in Documents\My Games\Fallout4)

[SaveGame]
iAutoSaveCount=x

where x is the number of saves you want to keep (per character).
If you don't have it yet, make a .txt, put in the stuff, save as, change "save as type" to "all", then paste Fallout4Custom.ini as the name. PS: Super late game saves can grow beyond 15 MB.

Start a new character and be more careful about your saving habits.

So there's no way I can load a previous save from before the combat?

I don't know about the mod, but there is a reason why the Survival save system works the way that it does - if you die out there, you lose your progress since the last save, but you avoid situations like this. Use mods that alter that system at your own peril, basically.

One of the reasons the save system in Survival works the way that it does is to heighten the risk and therefore the tension. I never understood why people would want to cheese this.

This would be the correct solution.

you don't have a previous save
Found a vanilla save (just before leaving the vault) on Nexus and just started again. It's cool though because it turns out some mods on my mod list are broken and outdated so got it all sorted. At least I was only level 16.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Didn't even know I could do that, thanks!
