3 YOU ARE NOT SOLE. Many others survived with you, like codsworth, Shaun, Nick's memories, ghouls like the VaultTec representative.

I guess it's to make you feel like you're an actual hero. People like to feel they are heroes and the only one who can save mankind... well in video games at least.

"One of the Survivors" doesn't have quite the same ring somehow. :)

(Although you were in theory the sole survivor in Vault 111.)

1) Not an issue
2) Not necessarily, as the player decides on the name of their character. The other name is just a placeholder for the NPC spouse. And the "name change", as it were, is 'canon' in world mainly thanks to Codsworth.
3) I think "sole survivor" is in reference to Vault 111, not the pre-war world. It's not accurate, but not all given titles have to be, imo, especially in a world without perfect information.

Bottom line is that it's just a title like "lone wanderer" or "courier". Something for your character to be referred to as by others, mostly.

Because in the game timeline, the player character has no name, same goes for The Vault Dweller, The Chosen One, The Lone Wanderer, The Courier, etc.

They're not going to name them Bobby O' just because iT'S sHoRtEr

well you can always go by a fake name, I mean, the real nate and nora renamed themselves to deacon and desdemona so i don't see why we can't change our names lol

you're probably right, the characters we play as could be synth clones, after all, we find 2 people that look very similar to pre-war nate and nora but are a bit older in appearance.

There's a list of what names Cod recognizes, but meh, even though I too customize my SS, Nate/Nora are the "canon" names.

When I created my character, I chose to keep the name "Nate" but use it in my character's name in a way that made sense and keep it canon. "James Nathan (Nate) Stillwell")
That was the name I chose to use ever since I launched the game the first time.
It just "felt" right. Codsworth recognizes the name "James".

Interesting meaning of the name, "Nate" in some translations means "Gift of God".

James: Supplanter
Nathan (Nate): Gift of God
Stillwell: Calm Spring
