Conversation UI not triggering properly, Can't take Nick's quest.
So I've been trying to start Nick Valentine's quest Long Time Coming. He's ready to give it to me, and I'm ready to hand over all the tapes that I've already found.

The problem is, that the UI does NOT change from "e to command" ever. Even while he's talking to me about it, or if I click on him and try talking, he'll start his dialog but the UI will NOT change to give me the option to accept.

Things I will not yet try: verifying the game files. I have not yet updated my game, because I am having trouble keeping F4SE updated, and I resist this until it's absolutely the last possible option. Yes, I have mods, including the "romance nick valentine" one - BUT it is NOT currently installed on this run. (it has its own set of issues, but this was NOT among them when I finished TWICE before now...)

Things I've tried, none of which have worked:

Loading a save.
Fast traveling.
Changing companions, then changing back.
A variety of console commands to try and cheat it into existence.

Cannot change the quest stauts using the console, because *it does not appear in my quest list* until you ACCEPT it, and I cannot accept it. Cannot start the quest, reset it, or get its stage, for that reason. I know the quest ID, ms07, and I know what level I need it to be for it to say I've got it started (10) but that ONLY works when it's already in your quest accepted list. :/

If there is a "start this quest using console" command I do not know it / have never seen it in any lists - if you KNOW of one, or can show me what works to START an unstarted, not-yet-accepted quest I will love you forever.

Also a problem - I cannot dismiss him from talking to him, because the normal stuff doesn't come up even when I've got the 'talk' option: he just started saying his "i've got something I want to do" dialog. I had to dismiss him by talking to Preston, but I COULD get him back - I just can't get his dialog to trigger the response properly. Whenever I attempt to talk at him, that's ALL that happens - he starts telling me he wants my help, and nothing else can be done.

So if anyone has any idea on how to get this weird bug fixed... That'll help a lot.

You can try taking him to Andrews station. Fight your way through until you find the door with the key code. Might jog him, might not.

Seriously nothing in 2 full weeks? Sheesh :( I've updated my game and F4SE but this did not fix any issues.

Oh that sounds like a good idea. *Crosses fingers* :D I'll come back and say whether this works. I'll be vewwy vewwy sad if not.

Sadly this did not work either. For whatever weird reason it just will NOT change the response wheel from "command" to "choose the option". :( But thank you for the help.

I found that just simply reloading a quicksave before the problem, shutting down the game and relaoding it will fix the script and get it to work again

Yeah the problem is that this developed probably a week or more ago, and I have no idea when the actual PROBLEM started. I don't know for sure whether it's got anything to do with the presence of a non-installed but not-deleted / removed mod, though maybe my next move is to reinstall that mod and see if it can at least get me past this point. I haven't gone through anyone else's companion quests, so I honestly don't know whether it's the same for all of them, or if it's just Nick.

have the exact same issue, though im guessing this was fixed maybe after such a long time? any help would be nice

It was not.

If you have interfered with Andrews Station in any way before taking his specific quest there is a non-zero chance that AT THAT TIME, this quest becomes broken. It was never fixed for me, sadly, even if I marked that the answer, it definitely did not complete the quest properly.
