if I had 2 level 4 general store merchants in the same settlement?
I'm thinking of getting two of the same merchant types, de Luca and the vault tec rep in hangmans alley. Just wondering if anybody did that and what your experience is like? Is it possible they'll have a 'joint inventory'?

Just another point, what if I had all 3 tiers of trading store? Would their inventory differ?

DeLuca's bugged as far as recruitment. Different level of stores have progressively more inventory. You can choose a perk that allows you to invest in any merchants, increasing inventory and cash on hand. It's very useful if you're scavving and selling excess.
There are 6/7 traders you can recruit that will turn a level 3 shop into a level 4. Each has a store specialty: Trader Rylee and the Vault Tek Rep are both General Store. Those 2 and the clothing trader at the radio station (northwest of a marina in the south) are the only static traders. The other 4 are special encounters, and require some finesse and preparation to recruit.

Personally, I usually have the Vault-Tec Rep as the general vendor. I leave Trader Rylee as an independent member of the settlement, because then she still offers her generic trader inventory (so it's like having an additional low-grade vendor).

Yeah, getting that feeling vault tec rep and Luca are going to pool their offerings. If thats the case, I better move her off if she does function like a separate merchant.

I'm not sure if Tina DeLuca functions as a separate merchant when left to her own devices, I just know that Trader Rylee does it.

Oh right, Rylee... yeah, I got to try that. 2nd playthrough and I really don't think I've seen her, though I have seen Smiling Larry and Dr whasername...

Rylee is at the cannery the first time you go there. I always stick her at Covenant with Deezer and Drinkin Buddy. The general store vendors sometimes seem to share an inventory from different locations, but that could just be the way I usually do trade runs.
Besides SL and Doc Anderson, there's the BOS Armorer and the clothing specialist from the radio station for Strongs quest. DeLucca might work for you if you let her brother OD/agg-kill him.

Yeah, I'm still wondering whether I should stop connecting settlements. Maybe then each trader might have their own stock. Really can't be bothered to do experiments on this. But if they had separate inventories I could really do with more locations to buy stuff from.

I managed to get deluca, must be the fallout unofficial patch. Weird how she has no lines, migh even send her to vault 88 to see what she actually says.

While I haven't done extensive testing, it seems like each type of store has its own stock that's shared with other stores of the same type, and possibly of the same level (I don't remember if I specifically tested whether, for example, level 1 clothing stores share with level 2, 3, or 4 clothing stores). I'll have to check, but it just means throwing down some appropriate stalls for comparison.

You can get her even without any mod patches, it just requires that her brother die in the Dependency quest so that she no longer has a reason to stay in the vault.

A quick test indicates that levels 1, 2, and 3 of a given store type all use the same inventory, while level 4 uses a separate inventory.

These are shared across all settlements, so building the same one in more than one place just gives you another place to access the same vendor inventory.

Hm, now that'll be interesting. level 4 trading store and a level 3 in the same settlement... Guess I'll give that a try in Hangmans. Right now trying to get another 600 caps so I can build a weapons store, hope I can get all the wandering merchants on this 2nd playthrough....
