Death by Stimpak & Vanishing Damage
So let me start off by saying my load order is, extensive. Needed to make a merged patch to keep it in limit.

I'm not a novice at using mods. Normally I do not struggle to troubleshoot or figure out what is screwing my game up. I sort my load order, make leveled list patches, download any required compatibility patches and install all mods with Mod Organizer 2. I use xedit when necessary.

But I'm posting here because my issue is, apparently, nowhere else on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ internet and I require additional brainpower and, potentially, experience to get around this.

The first post will be me posting my mods list so it isn't in the way.

Death by Stimpak & Vanishing Damage

1.
What does any of that mean?

Death by Stimpak is actually a little more bizarre than you might think.
Its like an inverted Stimpak.

It drains HP over its duration and it cripples every single part of my body. Its quite lethal.
The effect on the Stimpak's listing doesn't change, and all other forms of healing do not have any detriment to my knowledge. Drinking purified water is completely safe, for instance.

Vanishing Damage is also quite a bit more unusual.
So it starts out slow. I'll have a weapon and it will display 34 damage in my inventory. Cool. It will eventually start dropping in what seems % based - so my 200+ dmg weapon might drop to 180 dmg while the handgun has dropped to 32 or 30.

Eventually, damage from the weapon disappears. Completely. In the inventory, the damage doesn't display 0, it just doesn't display damage. On any conventional ranged weapon - I did not ever test with Melee since my character wasnt using any. Grenades still show damage, and their damage does not deteriorate. But under the caliber of ammo used it just skips right over damage onto the next statistic for a weapon. It's really, really weird.

This whole process of weapon starting to lose damage to weapon being no better than a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ club, and no, it's not a visual thing. Once the weapon's damage is no longer showing it does, no damage. None. At all. It doesn't heal things or reset their HP - I have a damage display mod loaded so I genuinely see no numbers pop up, even when they make 'hurt' sounds.

2.
Why are they lumped together?

Because they start occurring at the exact same time. My playthrough will be running smooth as can be until the damage starts regressing, and the instant damage does start regressing, Stim Paks become lethal. I've loaded back to previous saves to see if just, continuing on before I would explode my veins and tickle Bloatflies, but eventually it just, happens.

Stim Paks turn deadly and weapons turn inoffensive.

And no, this doesn't affect NPCs. Some super mutants bashed my head in comfortably, as did a swarm of gouls in another instance. Some synths ran up on me with weapons and still put holes in my fine. Furthermore, my companion's damage numbers did not change and Stim paks seemed to work fine for NPCs.

Effectively, this is 100% a Player Character issue. Thus these two very different and yet completely bizarre things are tied together. Somehow.

3.
Any other nonsense in that save file?
No. I never removed or added any mods to that run - I made my load order on a different character, testing compatibility and such there and then made a clean, fresh start with these mods on.

Aside from terrain flickering and LODs being hilarious - magic buildings appearing in my face - no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in key, important gameplay has happened.

What is interesting to note is, before these bugs cropped up, some crashing happened, and yet the entire day I haven't had a single crash, and have instead been battling this stupidity. But the save file seemed to stabilise on its own and none of the crashes ever related to item use or even weapons - Ghouls were causing crashes in some weird instances.

4.
What have I done to try and fix it?
Important for any of the MVPs who will try to help a brother out here. And I'll reiterate I'm not entirely clueless. Yes my INIs are in order, I have patches made, I'm running the latest versions of all mods, I'm not overclocking my system, my antivirus isn't misbehaving, I cleaned the DLCs for dirty edits, etc.

a) Loading back saves from several hours

b) Searching online to see if anyone else had this issue

c) Trying to see how consistently I could replicate it and if I could cause it to trigger sooner doing certain things (soft "yes" on that - using any work station or sleeping seems to cause it to instantly start happening on my save file vs. it randomly occurring out of nowhere)

d) Rebooting the Game & My Machine and seeing if it still happens (it does)

5.
What I've not done / will not do
a) Redownloading / Reinstalling the game. Bandwidth is limited resource and my internet speed is less than impressive.

b) Making a new character (I was ~6hrs in when this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ started, no, I haven't made a new one and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ around for 6hrs to see if it affects my other character)
I don't wanna get invested in another character lest this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue happen again shutting down my playthrough before I've even been to Diamond city.

c)
Made a shrine to Todd Howard and sacrificed the nearest goat.

Odd that they occur together. If these were individual, I would have guessed the jp's weapon overheating mod and mutations mod, based on what I read on the mod pages. Maybe they use a common variable? Try unequipping and re-equipping weapon; according to the overheating mod's page that resets it. I'm guessing the mutations show in your perks page, or somewhere on your stats, check those too.

Thankyou for the reply, I'll look in to seeing if these mods might be the guilty party.

I DO know 100% my character had no mutations in all of the saves except one while I was trying to figure out what was going wrong, I ended up getting Fly Person, but the earlier saves that had this issue did not have all the nasty insects vibing with me.

Unfortunately the un-equip re-equip doesn't work; I can swap to a whole host of different weapons and they'll all remain showing no damage.

I'll give removing both mods a go + use the kill mod function from Mutations. I'll get back to you if that helps, and thankyou for the lead!

Update:

Did not seem to prevent corruption i;e damage ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and stimpak being lethal. But thanks for trying to help; neither mod seems responsible, or at least, removing neither mod is able to get things to work properly.

Update 2:

Well then, literally cannot make new savegames, freezes before it can load the bathroom scene.

I saw something else while checking bugs. Have you switched between survival and another mode, while having a temporary food effect?
