How do I kill Malcom Latimer

I read that if you kill malcom the triggermen will stop coming. But I have tried this about 20 times now, every time I go into his house while he is sleeping he wakes up, even when i am crouching. and then after I kill him the magical guards outside are attacking me.
I kill him with a silenced weapon (A KNIFE!)

There is a quest where you ambush his drug deal. You get it by witnessing a fight in the terrace bar in DC then talking to the shlub that gets beat. This is where I kill him. It nets you 60 each of 5 different drugs and a map to the drug lab. But despite what you are told the drug lab has few drugs. But its a worthwhile trip as it forces you to navigate a series of tripwires in order to unlock a secret door.

As far as how to kill him. I ususally just shoot him in the head.
