Vortex Mods not loading for FO4
So i ran into this issue after reinstalling FO4 on the D: Drive instead of the C: Drive. I loaded up Vortex to check on all my mods and got a deployment notification saying they needed to be on the same drive. I moved it over to the C: Drive, as well as moving the mod staging folder via Vortex. Now Vortex isnt making a fuss about anything but when i boot up FO4 still none of my mods are loaded in. Any suggestions?

I don't use vortex so can't be of specific help, but as you say, you moved things around on drives a few times, so likely some file path issue you are overlooking. Check the mod manager ini files.

Also backup your saves and try a new game from inside the vault door, just as a troubleshooting step.

Yeah i kinda figured it was a file path issue, i booted up bodyslide to test the game path after some tinkering, it said that Vortex is missing Read/Write permissions. I gave it permissions and tried it again. The message dissappeared but still no bodyslide files. So im guessing there is still an underlying game data path issues.

Actually when vortex gave that you should have been able to simply tell it to fix the issue and it would have moved the mods over to the same drive as the game. I ran into the same when I moved fallout 4 to my second drive (was running out of room on C).

I did have that happen, but the "fix" button was greyed out. Here are the data paths:

FO4: This PC/Windows C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4
Vortex Mod Staging Folder: C:/Users/myname/AppData/Roaming/Vortex/fallout4/mods
Vortex Download Folder: C:/Vortex Mods/FO4

I had Vortex reinitialize the mod staging folder, but the Download Folder is my manual location. Hope this helps.

Your problem may be that it is installed in the Program Files (x86) folder. Windows sometimes blocks things from working correctly when they are installed there.

I would suggest moving steam or at least the games out of the Program Files (x86) folder. Here is a link to show an easier way of doing so than a reinstall.

Ok, i moved steam and my games out of the Program Files (x86) folder, FO4 is now in:

This PC/Windows C:/Games/Steam/Steam/steapapps/common.

I booted up Fallout4 to see if my mods were working now, but still no...

you would need to follow the instructions in the section that says "The following instructions are a simple way to move your Steam installation along with your games" under the heading "How do I move my existing Steam Installation?" If you want the games and steam installed on the same drive, the first part appears to be instructions for making a second library folder on another drive where steam would install future games we add.

The mod staging folder needs to be on the same drive as the fallout 4 installation. Neither Fallout 4 nor Vortex should ever be installed in the program files folder.

Make sure Vortex knows the correct Fallout 4 installation path after you moved around your installation and maybe deploy your mods again. Make sure you activated mods in your ini files:

sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Fallout 4, Steam, and Vortex are all on the same Drive (C: Drive). Here are the paths as of right now.

FO4: This PC/WIndows (C:)/Games/Steam/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout4
Steam: This PC/Windows (C:)/Games/Steam/Steam
Vortex: This PC/Windows (C:)/ProgramFiles/Black Tree Gaming Ltd/Vortex
Vortex Mod Staging Folder: C:/VortexGames/Vortex/Mod Staging Folder
Vortex Download Folder: C:/VortexGames/Vortex/Vortex Download

Does this help? How do i correctly set up the game data path?

Vortex -> Games -> Managed -> Fallout 4 -> click on the small + in the upper right corner of fallout 4 and it will display info like the install path set in vortex. You can also change the location this way if necessary.

Ok, so my mods are in Fallout 4's data file, but FO4 doesnt load my mods. The path is:
C:/Games/Steam/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/. What should it look like?
Charon May 13, 2020 @ 1:11pm
If your mods are installed and fallout does not load them you did not enable modding for fallout 4 in your ini files ... necessary edits are already posted above ...

The .ini files are as you said they should be. Im lost at this point. It has to be an issue with the path doesnt it?
Charon May 13, 2020 @ 1:45pm
Should work if the mods are already installed inside the fallout 4 data folder and ini settings are set. Can't help you then i'm afraid ...

Might look inside your C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Fallout4 folder if there is a plugins.txt file which lists the mods.

There is. Honestly i dont know what to do at this point besides reinstall vortex...
