Survival Caps 'Farming' Tips
Hello, Im currently doing a survival challenge. No vats, no power armour, no stim pack, etc... Im looking for money farming methods that doesnt involve leaving diamond city or combat. I dont feel safe in survival mode without good weapons or armour. I've max out char and done all of the diamond city 'jobs' got around 400 caps. I need atleast 2000 (or is it 3000) to buy the Pray and Spray. Tips?

there are mattresses just outside of Diamond city. Three within a minute of the gate. Sleep at one of them and clear the buildings and enemies around it. Collect their crap and sell it until you get to the amount you want. If it were me, i would make Hangman a settlement so i could use it as a base of operations. I spent over 100 hours clearing the area around Hangman. But if you are a bit terrified of death, stick to those mattresses outside the gate. There should be enough enemies nearby to get your way to 2000 to 3000 in a couple hours.

You know that one bald kid that sells the purified water?
Rob their house, take everything.
Thank me later.

If you ever do take a settlement, abuse the hell out of the purified water system.

adachi has a point: robbery. Save before you do so. If you don't want to rent the room at the dugout, and don't want to go through the load screen, find Kellogg's house. I think you can mattress down there. And then rob everyone blind. Robbery is probably the quicker way to do it. That kid does have a lot of crap sitting around.

If you want to farm caps i usualy get the taffington boathouse settlement as soon as i can i build junk fence wall around the front set up lazer turrets on concrete floorings and i build as many industrial water purifiers as i can. Get enough turrets up and you wont have to worry about oncoming attacks. I have 6 built and i get water pretty much daily.

One other way is making money through a drug empire.
try to get a brahmin at as many supply line linked settlements as possible and buy anything that gets you plastic and keep making jet and selling it at any owned clinic.

the thing is he doesn't want to leave the area around diamond city. If he is stuck in or around diamond city, he doesn't have that option. You are right, though. I like to do the Mr White thing and make jet so i can sell it. A lot of others farm water. I have found good luck with making caltraps. But he may not have the appropriate stats for the drug lord thing, either. I forget if you need a certain perk for making jet in survival or not.

While no perk is required you do at least need a chemistry station which requires a perk to build.

Thank you all for the replies. I might try the mattresses one. I do have raider armour and a pipe shotgun. The reason of me not leaving diamond city is, getting back to diamond city. Since fast travel isnt a option. and you cant randomly save, its quite dangerous. So I would stick around diamond city, as it would be pretty sad to lose all my progress just because I couldnt get back to DC. I might try robbery, havent tried it before tho. I understand the detection status but people have reported being 'caught' stealing or pickpocketing while 'hidden'. Once again, thanks for the reply :)

Might try to take sanctuary as a settlement (by complete the concord mission) and farm caps. Going to get a Spray And Pray first.

sanctuary is the easiest settlement to take, since it has codsworth to help you kill the flie and radroaches. And it has plenty of building material. It is a good practice settlement because it is in the middle of nowhere.

When you do concord, find the mattresses first. There are none inside of the building itself. There is one right down from redrocket in the deserted house, there is the fire in the parking lot, and their is the quarry. And of course you can use redrocket too.

Not sure if you have done the concord mission in vanilla before, but your best bet is to take the death claw out from the roof. It takes some patience because it runs away for a while when it takes damage. But it will save you from getting killed. And when done killing the deathclaw, jump of the roof in power armor and run to the fire just below the building that the minutemen are trapped in.

Vault 81 also has lots of goodies, undamaged junk that gives you more material, purified water, and lots of things to steal.
Take advantage of the fact that you have to do what it takes to survive.

vault 81 might be a bit of a spooky jaunt for him, though. There is that bear hanging outside of it, and it is a bit hard to get into. And it is a bit of a walk from Diamond city. I am remembering the right vault, right?

The vault that's still intact, Vault 88 is the gunner vault.

If you can get to Superdupermart near Lexington, there's a failed bankraid, respawn every return, sell it at Drumlin Diner, next cell.
Vinnie Mack Jul 13, 2017 @ 8:32am
that is a dangerous area for someone that isn't use to survival yet. those ghouls are vicious. And that is a ways from Diamond city too.

yeah I'd just get to a settlement and grow corn.

lots and lots of corn. each settler can grow 12 ears of corn per cycle.

each ear of corn sell for uh the 100% price is 6, 80% of 6 is probably rounding up to 5 caps.

so 60 caps per settler per cycle per settlement.

you just get a ton of corn (pick some up at greygarden I guess to start you off, check settler inventories)

I paid 1700 for spray and pray with 'high' charisma (use grape mentats) which is 340 corn. which would weigh 34.
