Need HELP ! Problems with Mod Organizer 2 - he can't find Fallout 4
Greetings,

I have got a big problem. I wanted to mod Fallout 4, because there are to many good mods to make it not. But... If I try to use the Mod Organizer 2 I get these message if I try to browse a new game in the MO2:

Error
No game identified in "C:/Program files (86x)/Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4". The directory is required to contain the game binary.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem or know a way to make it better ? Nexus Mod Manager has Fallout 3 or Vegas but no Fallout 4, so I can not use it.

Use the browse function and select the location manually. It should be located automatically though, if it actually is installed in that location
The Error-Message came in exact this way. MO2 don't find the game when I lead it manually to the main folder and each underfolder of Fallout 4.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having this problem now.

Nope. :-(

That sucks. I've actually gotten MO to work, I used it for over a year until recently. I had to replace my hard drive, and when I went to redownload it, it's acting like it can only connect to a file instead of a program, and when I link it to the file that actually has my game in it, it tells me it can't find it. Super annoying.

Hey so I just figured out the problem on my end, I'm not sure if my exact problem applies to you, and you might have to try reinstalling it, but here's what my problem was-
I got to the stage of setting it up where it's having me choose an instance, I created a new instance. It gives me a window to browse for files asking "please select the game to manage."
I don't remember it doing this the first time, but I guess this is something the new version is doing.
This will only recognize files, it does not recognize programs and it will not show your game's .exe file, which is stupid. I was literally just selecting the wrong file- C, program files 86, steam, steamapps, common, skyrim, data - because it looked like that's where my game was, but I was one ahead, you have to select the folder titled after your game and not go any further.
Here's a slightly outdated vid tutorial for its set up; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruq6hQIAvB8&list=PLlN8weLk86Xh3ue76x2ibqtmMramwQmHB

C:/Program files (86x)/ is a system protected folder and you dont want your games installed there if you can avoid it.

A lot of tutorials set you up with an install path outside of that folder.

Here is a video on a clean install: For SSE, but applicable for F4

Skip to 3:09 and replace the word skyrim with fallout

Found this older thread for the same issue I was having.

MY SOLUTION:
Mod Organizer seemed to be looking for Fallout4.exe, but the F4SE I was running would not open Fallout unless it could find F4.exe.
So I made the executable Fallout4.exe and then I made a copy of it and named that F4.exe.

Both Mod organizer, F4SE, and steam were happy so it works for me
Hope this helps
