Molecular level broken. Can't build the platform.
I only have the first piece available to build so far, I chose the railroad this time so I had to build it at mercer safehouse (Which is hangmans alley for me). I built it, and the quest doesn't update or acknowledge the building in any way. If it matters I had a Sim Settlements city plan running at the time in Hangmans Alley. Scrapped it and demolished everything in the settlement but still the game doesn't update when I build the piece

I got this info from the Fallout Wiki page on this quest: (copy/paste coming up)

"If building it with the help of the Railroad one may need to allow sufficient time for both Tinker Tom and Desdemona to get to the location of the Mercer Safehouse once the reflector platform is built and the quest log progresses. The map may show Desdemona's current location which keeps moving as she walks to the site if they have not reached it by the time one get there. Waiting or sleeping for several hours should allow them to reach it and take up their positions close to the teleporter."

So basically give time for Des and Tinker Tom to come to Hangman's Alley.

If this doesn't update the quest then it indeed may be your Sim Settlement mod screwing it up.

Thats the thing. The marker doesn't change at all. If I had to wait for them to arrive surely the marker would move from being on my workshop to being on them. And I've already tried building it and going to RR HQ to speak with them. They just had generic lines, and werent making any move to go to Mercer Safehouse. I also disabled all my mods and tried building it, and still it didn't work

Well, DID you actually wait for them? Although I've only ever done the Minutemen version of The Molecular Level where Sturges is involved (who then fiddles around with the console and teleports you into the Institute) I should imagine Tinker Tom and/or Des would have to be at the teleporter in the Railroad version to do a similar thing.

Maybe do a hard save (in case the following doesn't work) then while you're by the interceptor try the "moveto player" command by opening the console (if you're on PC).

ie with Tinker Tom it would be "prid 000508ed moveto player"
with Des it would be "prid 000508ed moveto player"

Other than that, that's all I can think of, sorry.

Again, I cannot build the entire interceptor. Just the FIRST part, And I have already built the first part and waited 12 hours for Tom which should be more than enough time for the short journey between RR HQ and Hangmans Alley, also built it and went to him, moved him to me and everything in between, it makes no difference.

The quest needs to ADVANCE and recognize I have built the first part of the teleporter before any conversation or interaction with Tom can happen. And it simply refuses to advance. Quest marker is always on the workshop with the objective "build the signal interceptor". Yet in the build menu all that is available is the first piece, and when built, no change in the quest/buildable items occurs.

Oh.. so the interceptor isn't actually completely built yet? So I misread that bit.

Have you tried storing and rebuilding the part you've already built? (The link I mentioned above has a Bugs section at the bottom which says doing that can sometimes fix the problem.)

Yup. Built like 20 of them by now and tried storing/replacing them even going to different settlements to try building it since building at Mercer Safehouse isn't a hard requirement. Nothing seems to work. I've had to just look into setstage commands to bypass the building process and just get teleported in to the institute, But that comes with its own issues..

I'm having the same problem.

Then perhaps you would like to consider reading the whole thread, since it has the solution - which is, "finish the actual machine".

Since you don't say any further details no one can assume that your game, your mods, and your computer are in any way the same as the OP's issue. You might want to go into much more detail.

No it wasn't, they said they built like 20 of the base platform and it still didn't work, they couldn't build the rest. That was my problem, too. Maybe read the thread yourself in future before being a ♥♥♥♥. To the civil people here, I just had to set the quest stage via console commands, which is annoying.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
