Pistols >>> heavy guns?
I found a couple of sub machine guns, and automatic rifles, they sure look like crap but... why they deal less damage than those 10 mm pistols? I mean... they cost more action points right? They should be more powerfull...

I wanted to roll some commando soldier, to bash and slaughter things with big guns on survival mode, like Rambo you know? But I wonder if thats even a good idea at all.

I feel the same way about a lot of weapons in FO4. I never understood why miniguns and Fat Mans were so underpowered. These mods seem to beef up weapons a bit.

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/9343/, damage overhaul

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/12986/ weapons of fate (I use this one)

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/20451/ XXL nukes (fun to use, but a pain in the arse because most cars will blow up with XXL explosions when NPCs shoot at them and you happen to be taking cover near one.

There's quite a few mods out there that make weapon damage more realistic and better.

Damage is affected by perks too. If you specialize in one weapon type it will end up being much stronger in your hands than other weapon types. There's the Commando perk for automatic weapons if you want them to do more damage.

Also weapon mods make a difference too.

Yeah...I guess its probably the worst thing to play... expensive action points and lower damage... I wonder if they are meant to hip fire amd run & gun only.

google the "spray n pray" if you want a good commando build.

also automatic guns do less dmg because you eather A# dont have the right perks yet, and B# they shoot 2-3 times faster than a normal pistol, so less dmg per bullet makes them more balanced, like EVERY game does this.

also legendary modifyers. thats why most basic weapons are bad.

Commando is great with the legendary handmade rifles from nuka-world or 'explosive' on pretty much any automatic weapon.
(Assuming you have all the damage perks, they all multiply each other until that 15 damage ends up being up to 155 damage (248 on miniguns) per shot...)

Make sure you have 'dense' on a metal limb and 'padded' on your torso armor so you don't hurt yourself too much.
(Power armor can't get 75% explosive damage reduction, so doesn't work as well. 'shielded' only gets 2% reduction per part with it (max 12%).)

Kinda OT, but I use this:
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/21516?
and also
https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4042/.

My main is a heavy gunning max-modified, high explosive-using, armor-piecing rounds Shrike wielder, with max perks in heavy guns. There's no drops that I can find legit or craft on my own that exceeds the beast I built with it. I can mow down Skull icon monsters and NPCs on hardest difficulty withnout much effort, lol.

It should also be noted that semi-auto weapons will only fire 1 shot per action, while automatic weapons fire a burst of shots.

It seems in general that semi-auto weapons deal less dps due to their lower fire rate, while automatic weapons pour it on at the cost of ammo efficiency.

automatic weapons burn through ammo too fast, you will find that ya don't use as much ammo if ya stick to single shot weapons as well as using sneak attacks to multiply the damage. Its what I always do

I sort of assumed that a 10mm was a properly intact pistol and not something cobbled together from wasteland parts which was why it had better damage. At least, that was the justification I used.

I went rifle/shotgun route with a pistol for backup and generally found that custom built weapons worked best, unless you happen to get a lucky legendary quality drop.

Best legendary vanilla weapon I ever found in the base game was:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=613669010 .
I used this once I found it, don't remember. Maybe around 20. Sustained me until my '70's. I was a stealth sniper so I tried one-shotting every point-blank to medium range NPC head that came my way.

Go visit vault 81 and grab overseer's guardian and make it a semi auto that uses .308.

Thank you, but now with some ballistics overhaul, craftable legendaries, and craftable heavy weapons, I haven't been able to look back. Made a new toon, heavy gunner, maxed heavy gunner perks, shrike, explosive AP rounds. Nothing beats the Beast with raw destructibility. XD.
