I need some advice... ._.
So today I re-downloaded Fallout 4 since there was some cool mods that I wanted to try out. The last time I played the game was like 6 months. Unfortunately I'm running into issues I've never had before. To start with, F4SE script extenders isn't working for me (v0.6.10 rel 16 --> v1.10.98). I noticed that both LooksMenu, MCM, and PlaceAnywhere just out right doesn't work. I tried to activate them in NMM but when I run F4SE as an admin it still doesn't work. I go back into NMM and they auto disable. If anybody could give any advice I would deeply appeciate it. I just want to play the game again :-/

[Note]: I only have 5 mods on my load order right now, I still have my old ENB preset installed, and I keep getting this NMM message telling me that it can't connect to the server.

NMM can't connect because you have an older version and you need the lastest version in order to connect.

With F4SE my only advice is to manually remove the F4SE files from the main game folder, then redownload, extract the files and manually drop them into the Main game folder. Not the Data folder.

Make sure you're running NMM as Administrator.

If you have the game and NMM on different drives, either get them on the same drive or go to NMM's tools menu and select "change virtual folders". Then direct NMM to where the game is on your other drive.

Don't forget to add the 3 required lines to your Fallout4Custom.ini required for nexus mods to work.

Edit; As was posted above me, make sure to update all your mods that require F4SE.

Make sure your mods are up-to-date, and check them for any potential patches that may be required for them to work.

Also, there's that one ini file that needs to be modified to let mods work. Did you do that after reinstalling?

You have an old version of NMM that will no longer be able to connect to the servers. You will need to manually update it from the website (I could be wrong about that, I havn't used NMM for a long time), and then download the updates from github. After that you will probably have to update all your mods as Suzaku said above. Most of the F4SE mods are version dependent.

I actually haven't adjusted my ini file since the last time I played. What specifically needs to be added to the ini file to enable mods properly?

What do you mean by, " Download the updates from github". Could you elaborate?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Enabling Modding for Fallout 4:

Before you can mod Fallout 4 you need to modify the Archive section of the game's configuration files to allow mods to run in the game. Don't panic, you must do this in order to mod your game. This is what you need to edit:
You need to add the following lines to the Fallout4Prefs.ini file below the section entitled:
[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

Then add the following line in Fallout4Custom.ini below the section entitled:
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

This easy-to-follow tutorial will stop you from turning off the internet because you put in the wrong ini entries (joke!):

A guide to setting up your PC version of Fallout 4 for modding. This does not show you how to install mods, but rather set your game up ready for mods to be installed.
Over time, as you add more mods to your FO4 data folder, you will notice that either you, or the mod manager will have added more edits to this, creating a string of essential configurations, ie: Textures / sounds / scripts / etc.. If users are experiencing longer loading times in their game, there is a method of invalidating these configurations from the sResourceDataDirsFinal script line in order to address this.

Edit: bah, the YouTube link didn't copy. Using a phone to copy-paste is rough...

I double checked both the files and noticed that I already have them listed as you have instructed above. Specifically this:

Fallout4Prefs
[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1

Fallout4Custom
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

I don't believe this to be the source of the issues but I appeciate the advice. It was well written.

Wait... That might be the solution to my problems. I have the updated version of NMM but I need to direct the virtual files. Do I just connect it to the main Fallout 4 folder or is there a sub folder inside I need to direct it to specifically?
ronr42 Jul 24, 2018 @ 9:33pm
Well, you got me. I only have 1 drive and have never had to change the virtual folder. The way I understand it is once you select that in the tools menu, you should have an option for browsing files, folders and programs on both your drives. Then you need to set the virtual install so it connects to the Fallout 4 folder and Fallout4.exe. {You may need to Google it}

IF you have NMM and the game on the same drive, you do not need to use that tool. NMM will find the game automatically.

Another thing to do if you haven't already is have NMM scan your pc for games.
