Best Legendary Laser Musket (For settlers and companions)
I know other weapons are stronger and better for settlers, but I want to make a more Minutemen themed roleplay for all of my settlers and would like to arm them with Laser Muskets. But I'm not sure which legendary effect would be the best for them. I know anything involving VATS and critical hits are ruled out for sure.

Defiant sounds good since a laser musket only fires one shot, but I hear it's broken and doesn't increase damage at all like it should.

Instigating will be useless if every settler is already attacking the enemies.

Neverending is usless as the settlers don't crank all the way.

So which legendary effect is the best for the Laser Musket to arm settlers with?

There's the Automatic (laser musket) legendary effect which normal only shows up on laser muskets and makes them fire one shot per crank repeatedly. I'm not sure if NPCs use it properly, however.

Otherwise, you're probably after something general, like Penetrating, Mighty, or Two Shot. You could also consider Kneecapper if you've got a bunch of people all shooting, since they'll quickly immobilize targets.

its good for a while. think of the cranks up to six cranks. its basically your best laser sniper rifle though each crank takes a 1 ammo so six cranks is six ammo. although not laser the gauss rifle is best.

i would think two shot imo as douglasgrave pointed out as a good one and basically doubles dmg though with some penetrating can def help.

I have found wounding effect for laser pistol/rifle for the first time and I find quite boring since the bleeding isn't strong enough. So for laser musket I would suggest to look for two shot legendary effect since is stronger.

I put a two shot laser rifle on Curie, weird thing is that when she shoots, you actually see 2 lasers...I always thought the two shot only showed 1.

Technically it is two shots. You can miss with the second shot firing manually due to recoil from the first.

However the player camera system is geared for a single shot so we only see the one.

I wanna go watch a companion with a two shot now, lol.

I've never equipped settlers with muskets but I normally give them legendary weapons with secondary effects. For instance Minigun with radiation, cryo, or incendiary effects. It quite funny to see an on fire burnt ghoul laying in a pile of ice and green slime after an intense few seconds of settler interaction.

Edit: maybe these same effects are on legendary muskets

To those saying the laser musket is a bad idea. So what? This is for role play. It does not matter what gun you give them. Settlers are "protected". They do not die except by accident. They will eventually win. Always. I like to arm and equip my settlers with good stuff. But that is just for role play.

I wasn't even aware that legendary effect gear would benefit with settlers and companions I will have to try that sometime cause I have so much of it in my homeplate workbench lol

Yeah as someone menitoned earlier give a provisoner something like Ashmaker (minigun with fire damage) and they actually do some real damage.

Of course a lot of armor and weapon legendary effects are useless though, only because they target a stat or ability NPCs do not use.

By far the most entertaining thing that you can give a settler is a nuka grenade, forget about this laser musket nonsense :steammocking:

If it weren't a laser musket, I'd still recommend Kneecapper for settlers, just on something that fires faster. Nothing like making a target a sitting duck for all your defenses.

This guy gets it! Good man! That's right! This is entirely for a Minutemen roleplay! Equipping the settlers with Laser Muskets completely distinguishes the Minutemen from other factions! Though like you said about giving settlers better stuff, I usually give my settlers the Lever Action Rifle from Far Harbor DLC with the Plasma Infused legendary effect since they look the most like a musket.

With this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4711/
You won't even need a legendary musket
Just build a good musket and one crank can deal up to 300dmg
But only to one target
My 6 crank can kill a behemoth in 2 shots
