Is Idiot Savant level 3 worth getting on high player level?
I'm 94 level right now and looking for faster XP boost.
My character's INT is 4.

Opinion on this will differ. I say no. But i think Idiot Savant is never worth it, as it cannot beat an Intelligence Build.

If you want lots & lots of XP, boost your Int the next 6 levels to 10, use some Sharp gear or the PA Paint and Helmet that gives + 3, have Int gear underneath and exit PA before delivering Quests, and make INT drugs and Squirrel Stew.

10 INT is + 30 % on ALL xp, always, every time, every kill, every craft. Nothing beats this. And It is not hard to have a steady 17 INT, for permanent + 51 % xp boost. My Int Architect has 19 INT and levels superfast.

I never needed level 3, just get the 5x one on level 2

also don't worry about your intel level, you can max it out to 10 and idiot saviant still has a high chance of working even though the description says the opposite

Idiot savant is a stupid perk who's only goal is to let you level up fast abusing save/reload on the big quest turnins.

ignore the perk forever. If you want more experience, ignore idiot savant, and just pump up your intelligence 1-3 points or what ever. it was a dumb perk, it is a worthless perk, and its only there to make you level up faster.

If you have 6 intelligence, and want to level up faster, ignore idiot savant and put 2 or 3 more points into intelligence. It's easy to level up in the game, having a "level up faster and abuse quest turnin" perk is not something that should even be in the game.

That. The higher you get the longer it can take to kill mobs then the buff becomes nearly useless.

Completely false because it still works with an int build, it just has a lower chance.

If you take rank 1 at level 2 and rank 2 at level 11 those two perks will pay for themselves with the xp earned from the procs.

I can agree with this only because at low levels you want the fast levels, once you hit about 50 that fast xp is no longer needed or wanted because mobs just get spongier the higher they get.

But think about it, if you want to level up as high as possible, an extra point doesn't hurt...

If I may, you will eventually get all Perks and Maxed Stats, if you play long enough.
The question becomes what do you want to do 'while' you level up getting the Perks/Stats.

Do you have many Perk points sitting around? (Some do, as they play min/max, trying to Specialize, ignoring some Perks as they go; but some don't, as they use up their Perks on other useful things as they go; neither is better, just play how you want to) but:

- If your Luck is high, Idiot Savant might be better, as your Luck stat effects its' Proc; it will 'go off' more if your Luck is already high (eg. Luck Build, to do Legendary Farming).

- If your Luck is low, maybe pump Intel might be better, as Idiot Savant won't proc as much anyway; in the end, your XP gain will increase from the Intel points.

Overall though, this:

so much bad info. Idiot savant perk proc rate is based on your intelligence. The higher your intelligence the less chance it goes off. The lower your intelligence the higher the chance. Luck has nothing to do with it working. 1 intelligence gives like a 10% chance, 10 intelligence a 1% chance. I think its like chance to work is 10% and -1% each point of intelligence over 1. So at 10 int its maxed at 1% chance.

Leveling up just makes you a super god even on very hard mode, so leveling up really isn't something to focus on in the game. At some point, you'll be strong enough to laugh at the strongest foes in the game, like supermutant warlords, mirelurk queens, all that stuff. Wether its level 50, or 75, etc. Leveling up to 200 isn't hard, but it doesn't really do much for you. except throw unneeded perks. Which is the reason idiot savant isn't a good perk, and shouldn't be in the game.

Already discussed for years on HOW it really should have worked, which instead of a 3x/5x boost for some dumb reason, simply having it factor as +2 intelligence in terms of experience gain per perk level. So if you had 4 intelligence and 3 levels of idiot savant, would treat it as 10 intelligence in terms of gaining experience for doing tasks/quests, etc.

Its an abused perk that people use to gain super fast leveling with quest turn-ins. Suddenly 500 exp for a turn in can be save/scummed until it works and now you have 2500 exp for the turn in. For some crafting, monster killing? sure, not a huge deal, but when you can abuse it for quest turn ins, its broken, and stupid. Again, ignore the perk and bump up your intelligence more. Not only will you gain more experience over time, but you can get perks that higher intelligence is needed for. You don't need to be level 200 to have fun, without the perk you'll be level 150 and still a super-god.

Actually this skill works even on int 15+, exspecially if you d mass crafting.

1+ yes works even on int 15+ sometimes and that is a large amount of xp with the big bonus from the int.
Idiot Savant is garbage don't get it also some of the people here have been listening to Jeff on YouTube. Jeff is a game critic and a cheater he has a mod that switches his stats he is an STR build but he switches to an AGI and Luck build for tutorials and people who watch his videos pay him money to use his mods. The correct order is Strength 4 get Armorer and Blacksmith so you can build the Armor Forge and the Armor Disassembler with mods, Perception 4 we will raise it to 5 with the bobblehead and with leveling. We only need Lockpick, Endurance 1 we only need Toughness, Charisma 5 we are going to get Cap Collector, Lone Wonderer, Black Widow/Lady Killer, and Attack Dog we will raise it to 6 to get Local Leader. Intelligence 6 we need all of them except for VANS, we will raise it to 7 when we reach level 20 to unlock the Automation DLC and scrap and build robots and synths, Agility 3 get all the first three perks. and Place Luck at 2 we only need the first two perks do not bump it up to five yet we don't need Idiot Savant until later and that perk is garbage.

If you want levels and perks and stats go with this build. Build settlements, place machines, Build Arenas, and build your defenses. If you listen to Jeff and speed read when you are a beginner and race through the game to the Institute your going to die and you will get over encumbered. Last person I know who listened to Jeff walked into a Mutie camp and a Level 20 Mutie Suicider came up to him with a Mini Nuke and a Fatman and blew himself up and he had to restart because he did not save when he left the vault. That is not a good way to go. So skip Idiot Savant until you are mid game don't take it when you start.

You are talking with people from 2020. People from 2020 weren't known for rational, reasonable discourse. In fact, in April 23 2020, just a month after post your replied to, the President of the United States was calling for an investigation as to whether or not injecting bleach into the bloodstream could help in defeating the coronavirus. Just to put things in perspective here.

Captain Richard Ravager III disagrees with Idiot Savant being worthless.
DouglasGrave Sep 20, 2023 @ 3:41am
Necro aside, I feel like being able to spend the perk points on something else and avoid being repeatedly annoyed by goofy laughter are good enough reasons to not take Idiot Savant.
Bored Peon Sep 20, 2023 @ 4:55am
A couple procs of Idiot Savant and it literally pays for itself, especially if taken at 2 and 11 when they become available.

Most people avoid taking it because they do not want to inflate their level and deal with the bullet spongy mobs.

Yup and thats part of the problem most people here listen to that IGN critic Jeff they do not put their points into other perks and dump the first six points they get into Idiot Savant that is not a good idea it can get you killed and you can not build anything, you can not craft anything, and you can not open any doors or locks. Grabbing Idiot Savant and rushing to the Institute is suicide the last person who did that did not save his game he walked into a Mutie Camp and a Mutie Suicider blew him up with a Mini Nuke and a Fatman. Don't do that! thats how you can die.

even at 10 int it still might trigger on a quest.
