Just started over playing now that some have helped me (thanks!). Before the bomb I was wandering about the house and I clicked on SUGARBOMBS! and the newspaper. I also clicked on the pack of cigarettes on the table and you hear "hey, how'd they get there"

So who put them there hmmmmmmm?

She probably suspected the kid of smoking them. Cigarettes were easy to get as a child at one time. I'd be given some quarters at the tavern while the adults played cards and told to get them a pack from the vending machine. Also when we were in a pizzaria or supper club.

The smoker lives in the house, its probably not the months old baby, and the way your chosen character says it mockingly suggests its the spouse.

Depends what you mean by cheating. If you mean are Nora or Nate having an affair with another person, the answer is no. If on the other hand you mean are both Nora and Nate secretly having anusex with Codsworth behind the other's back, you bet your ass they are.

smoking was quite in vogue then(at least the time it represents not the actual date lol). i think the idea is the player character does not smoke nor is the game makers trying to advocate it.

The Vault Tec Rep "can't believe" that "YOU get in and not me??" - so like, he knows that he's the Dad and so he should be able to get in 'for sure' (in his mind) - he says this phrase if you talk to him after he runs away from the gate in Sanctuary Hills ("I'm reporting this!")...

Later when you see the VT Rep again he is sooo happy to be back in Sanctuary Hills he can't believe it, and talks to you over and over all reminiscing and loving being back at that area...

The entire beginning portion has "relationship stress" all over it - whatever gender you pick, the other gender tells you to get the door and doesn't even look up, talking like it's angry or something... Then, if you say "NO" at the door, to the Vault Tec Rep, your spouse will say "then I'll do it" or "well I said yes", it's like a little fight there - so stressful!

The little snide jokes at each other, the fact there are no pictures of them as a couple around, so many signals that they are having relationship problems... wow

I think you're misinterpreting their "signals" (a common mistake).
Not all relationships (or marriages) are beds of roses.
One of them is/was apparently a smoker. It doesn't mean one or the other is cheating.
One of them could have been a smoker and is trying to quit since the birth of Shaun.
Have you ever tried to quit smoking or know someone who tried?
They seem tense, but that's normal. The visit from the Tech Rep is seen as an irritation since he's been repeatedly coming to your door (they refer to him as a salesman). But you also have to notice they have a sense of humor with a touch of sarcasm in between them and that's perfectly normal.
Once you get the surprise holo-tape from Codsworth (or if you happen to find it) it clarifies their relationship to each other.
They are dedicated to each other and their family. They'll both do what it takes to keep their family secure, successful and prosperous.
