Fallout 4
The WORKING Modern Firearms?
I am totally baffled by what happened to litetally the best mod that exists for Fallout 4: Modern Firearms. It was on the Nexus and then moved off the Nexus to an external webpage and is no to the point of being almost impossible to find. Have you ever played Fallout 4 with Modern Firearms and then tried playing without? The game is impossible to play without Modern Firearms.

Does anyone know where the WORKING version of Modern Firearms can be found? The 2.5 version of the mod that can be found on the occasional wuper shady looking webpage that you can only get to by clicking through 40 random popups isn't the working version. There are no scope or stock modifications for this version. I'm trying to find the Modern Firearms mod that gives you all of the weapons and has all of the working parts for every weapon. PLEASE HELP and link the webpage if you know it. Thanks!

Not sure if you knew but one of the controversies around Modern Firearms when it was on Nexus was that some of the assets used in it were used without permission. I dont remember the full story...but the version i have listed above was downloaded before any of that stuff blew up on Nexus and the mod was taken down. I dont think i used any later versions but maybe the reason why 2.5 is so reduced as you say is because the stuff that was used without permission was taken out? the artists who gave permission have their stuff in 2.5 but the ones who didnt/couldnt give permission had their stuff left out. Thats just a guess of course...

I tried uploading it on mega but it was taking too long for some reason. I could try emailing it or if someone can recommend a safe hosting site other than mega i can try reuploading there instead.

would you be willing to email me a copy of MF 2.0?

as MF 2.6.1 has many attributes removed
What attributes are you talking about? The scripts? The scripts were updated in 2.6.1, not removed. If you were using FO4 Hotkeys, you need to either update your Hotkeys .ini file, or if you have the MCM Menu mod, just remove the old MF Hotkeys from your FO4 Hotkey .ini file and use MCM for MF Hotkey functions.

For FO4 Hotkeys, these are the updated scripts:
<key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleMenu <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleFireMode <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleAimPoint <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleAmmoType <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleUnderBarrel <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleGadget <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleSuppressor <key>=cqf ModernFirearms ToggleStock
would be mighty fine if they'd add the AMT automag family
Dude, I wish for the same thing. Decent models are difficult to find though, and there aren't many AMT models available of decent quality. It would be kickass to have the AMT Automag III chambered in .30 Carbine in MF. XD

I wouldn't switch to the new 2.6.2 if I were you. I updated and now I've lost 50% of the weapons I had before. Seems like all the cool modern weapons are replaced by lame Bethesda vanilla weapons, Half the weapons that are supposed to be added by the mod are missing the graphic of the weapon and when you get in third person the weapon doesn't even show up on the toon. It fires but mostly locks up the game if you do fire the invisible weapon.

Not really liking what has happened to a once great mod.

That would be because you did not do a clean save installation when updating. Head to the below link and follow the instructions on the page to completely uninstall, clean your game save of any mod data, and reinstall the mod: https://modern-firearms-fo4.info/informations/instructions/#updates

Additionally, if you have any patches between MF and other mods, you need to remove them. No patches are currently compatible with 2.6.x as none have been updated yet. Having incompatible patches installed with 2.6.x will cause the mod to break, because the patches will be referencing old data that is no longer in the mod.

Also, before assuming things, you should really search around for more information, before spreading misinformation.

Just so happens I did do a clean save. Disabled and reinstalled 2.6.2 with NMM. Maybe you should keep your wise cracks to yourself?
Then you have outdated patches you need to remove. I can assure you that MF 2.6.2 is fully functional. PEBKAC is not our fault, lol.

Bull. ♥♥♥♥♥. I built the damn thing myself, I know for a fact that the errors you're having are exclusively caused by user error.

You either didn't follow the clean save instructions properly, or you're missing a patch lower in your load order that you forgot you have installed.

Fire up FO4Edit, load **everything** that's after the Modern Firearms.ESP plugin including MF itself, then open up the MF .ESP and start looking for conflicts.

Also, if you haven't already, triple-check your Data folder for any loose files from previous versions. Check Materials, Meshes, Sounds and Textures for any folders named "SHEEP". if you see any, delete them.

I followed your guidelines on your site exactly. I saved, exited, disabled and uninstalled via Nexus mod mgr., looked for any other MF folders or files in all the places you mentioned and found nothing, restarted game ignored the error msg about missing MF and saved again. Exited, downloaded MF 2.6.2 final again from your site and used Nexus mod mgr. to reinstall it.

Then I closed Nexus and reopened it because sometimes it doesn't refresh correctly, opened Loot and checked the order of the mods. Then restarted Fallout 4. I got a message when entering the game that MF were available at vendors, made the attachment dongles at the chem lab.

Still seeing a lot of weapons not showing up in my inventory in other words the thumbnail of the gun is not there. but its in the inventory,

When I go to the weapon station the same weapons have no graphic there as well but I can mod them.

When I try to equip them my hands are empty, I can shoot them but it then causes a crash.
Then, for the last time, you have outdated patches that you need to remove. No patches that are currently out there are compatible with 2.6.x. There are literally thousands of users using 2.6.2 as we speak with absolutely none of the issues you're encountering.

If you ain't got any patches, then you must have the super old and outdated MF installed from the in-game BethNet mod service which would be conflicting with the external MF 2.6.2. And if that ain't it, then your game install is just utterly f***ed and you need to start over from scratch. Salt the earth, as it were.
Why is there no updated version on Bethesda?

They have current version for X-box, but PC version hasn't been updated since it was last uploaded, it seems.
Because the mod on PC is too large to fit on BethNet. BethNet has a strict 1 GB upload cap for mods, no matter what platform they're being uploaded to. MF as of 2.6.2 is 1.59 GBs packed into a .ZIP package and 1.85 GBs when unpacked and installed in the FO4 Data folder. And seeing as how PCs have virtually no space restriction, we see no reason to upload a downsized version to PC BethNet.

If we did, it would be of lower quality because we would have to do the same thing we do for Xbox uploads. Downsize ALL textures to a maximum of 1K res and a minimum of 512 res, alongside super-compressing the archives. Which means a significant drop in quality that is very easily seen on PCs, but nearly not noticeable on Xbox, not even on the Xbone X. Besides, BethNet is a sh*te mod service and has constant issues plaguing it. Anything from downloads simply failing to succeed, to the mod service saying you are missing required files to download the mod, when the mod requires no other mods or files to begin with.

By hosting on our own site and using GitHub for downloads, there's no size restriction and WE control the file and pages. No BethNet moderator f*ckery with them updating page info if they feel like f*cking with the mod page (which they have done in the past, such as setting mod dependencies on our mods without asking us first), no pis*y users reporting the mod to be di*ks to get it taken down, or uneducated users using the report button thinking it'll magically submit a bug report and therefore resulting in an "erroneous" takedown, etc.

There are lots of reasons to NOT host MF on PC BethNet, and zero reasons why we should.

Edit: Even if we did decide to upload a downsized version to PC BethNet, it would be obsolete and impossible to update in the near future anyways. MF is slowly growing in content, which also means growing in file size, and there is only so much that downsizing textures can do before we can't do anything more. So at some point, the mod literally will not be able to fit on BethNet anymore. When that happens, Xbox support stops, and so would PC BethNet if we ever uploaded it to PC BethNet again. It would be a futile and pointless effort to begin with. PC users have a plethora of options for getting mods. Xbox users have one option, unfortunately. And while there are at least a couple ways to get around the size restriction on BethNet, none of them are worth the effort it would take to make it work.

While you are here, does using Vortex possibly screw up installs for the external versions of the mod? I'm running into super mutants carrying parts of AKs and such, but not the full weapon, and shooting at me with invisible firearms. They carry LMGs and bolt-actions correctly, but shotguns and AKs and such seem to just be in their inventory as parts once they die, and invisible while they are alive.
