Any reason the NOT kill Pickman?
I saved him, and will get the knife, but…is he integral to any missions?

just a nice little sidequest. Nothing game essential here

Well, I decided to allow him to live. I forgot to check his pockets while in stealth mode, but he's probably not carrying anything terribly interesting.

You are a terrible person.

While exploring you do find the odd raiders killed, with pickmans calling card on them. not enough to make any difference to the game as such, but I thought it was a nice touch :)

He kills raiders, so he must be a good guy, right?
Unless you are a raider.

Good guy? Not really. He's a twisted serial killer with some deep-seated psychological issues. With the absence of law and—QED—law enforcement, the only guys that think he's a bad guy, really, are those making up his victim pool, and raiders are generally despised, so most people would probably regard him as a pest exterminator.

Ha ha, Pickman's Pest Control!:steamhappy:

Just call the number on the card. It's eco-friendly; he doesn't use poison.

I think the question here would be what really makes Pickman any worse than the Sole Survivor if they both enjoy killing raiders?

He's the Player Character in a better game.

He's Dexter, Fallout style. You have pathos for him because he kills bad guys and that's essentially what your doing as you stomp aropund. Creates a paradox of sorts: if I kill him I should kill myself too because I shoot these guys on sight. The only real difference is how long it takes the raider to die.

The sole survivor doesn't fit the clinical or legal definition of a serial killer, as it is the game-player's actions and the reasons he or she does them that determines the character of the sole survivor. The player can opt to kill only when it is absolutely necessary, which is what some moral-high-grounders (for lack of a better term coming to my mind immediately) opt for when playing, or the player can assume the role of a blood-thirsty psychopath, doing in the game what would not be done in real life.

When the game begins, he's a normal—wait…if the player chooses a female persona, is she a married gay woman, or is it the husband from whose arms Sean is taken? I digress. Anyway, he's a normal house-husband, a working stiff who's also an honorably-discharged army veteran. Thawing in the vault two hundred years later, he arms himself with a baton and a pistol, killing a few rad roaches to escape his imprisonment. He sets out to find his son…vowing to do whatever it takes. Good guy, no question, no indication whatsoever of psychosis or any sort of abberant psychiatric condition.

Jack the Ripper (stealth-blade-weilding Dr. Carrington) is quite another story, although he's not targeting only working girls. However, in this scenario, there being no real law, his behavior is acceptable because he's aligned himself with a faction that tolerates his predations because he confines his attentions to the enemies of the Railroad faction.

So, there is a very real difference between the two, but the player has the option of actually becoming more evil than Mad Jack.

I killed the raiders. After Pickman gave me the key and instructions to look behind the painting I shot him in the head with a shotgun. Still got the knife.

Wait, what about Carrington? I haven't caught this?

As to Pickman I let him live, on the basis his targets are valid and I've seen what *they* do to their victims.

Pickman looks more like Danse than Carrington.
