Fallout 4

View Stats:
highest screen resolution is capped at 1440x810 in windowed borderless even though my moniter is 1920x1080
I also can't start the game in fullscreen without crashing with anything higher than the lowest screen resolution, even though other graphic-demanding games run fine. Does anyone have a resolution?

Borderless windowed, that way you run in the same resolution and frame rate as your desktop and you get to alt-tab seemlessly. Playing games in fullscreen went out with dungarees.

That resolution did not even exist commercially when they made this game, you are expecting too much.

1080 predates Fallout 4 by about 15 years, it's the current default resolution in games.

Yes, but 1920x1080 did not.
Edit: I am no expert in this I am just going by what I know (or better yet - what I think I know) - and I sure as heck do not know everything, nor do I wish to upset anyones' righteous knowledge base for heaven's sake.

What? 1920x1080 was around for about a decade before Fallout 4.

actually it did I was playing other games prior to fallout 4 being released that auto set that as the games resolution. In fact This may be a driver/monitor detection or settings issue as fallout 4 does select the 1920 x 1080 setting when it autodetects my graphics.

In the fallout4pref ini file you could manually set the resolution just find and change these settings..

bTopMostWindow=0
bMaximizeWindow=0
bBorderless=1
bFull Screen=1
iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

OK, I am wrong. I am just a human and we do that - but as long as we learn from it, everyone is better off. Thank for the lesson.

We all make them that is how we learn.

I suspect that fallout 4 might think some other aspect of the OP's system can not handle the game running at that setting.

it;'s funny. I upgraded from 1920x1200 about ten years ago to 2560x1440 and expected games to do the same.

but instead they went backwards to match tvs

What most peopel call 1080p usualy IS in fact 1920x1080. For soem unknown reasons (probably a marketing stunt that stuck) many peopel use the second number to describe the resolution.
And I had 1920x1080 monitors for more than 8 years now, and they were pretty much the standard option back then, with optiosn i nall price rnages and labels.

well I still have a 1920x1200 and it's not 1920x1080, and as such it makes more sense to call 1080p for a computer monitor 1080p, since it's not 1920x1200p nor 1920x1080i.

What? I seriously have no idea what you are trying to tell us with any part of that staement.
krashd Dec 9, 2018 @ 3:05pm
We generally use the second number only because if you ahve the vertical then you will know the horizontal (and vice versa) since it's rare for aspect ratios to differ from 16:9, though folks still say 1080p or 720p (480p, 144p, etc) but the p has long been made redundant since no one uses interlacing anymore and so all 1080's are just 1080's now as opposed to being either 1080p or 1080i as it was in the past.

Though no one really says 1080 except for me, my family and the technology cabal we are nurturing from our bunker in the wilds.

I need to clarify; running in full screen I can get the resolution to about 1920x1080 but the game won't even start without crashing... Running in borderless window the highest I can get it is 1440x810, which is only about half of my screen. I've never encountered this issue before and I've had the game for about 3 years now

That is incredibly odd, your dekstop is definitely 1920x1080 though? As borderless window is basically just the game layed over your desktop.
